06/10/2015 – Colehaus Garden Visitors

Some recent visitors to the Colehaus Garden:

Cocoa - 2015 © Colehauscats.com

Mom still hasn’t gotten close to shy daily visitor Cocoa but just this morning, mom got within two feet while putting out the day’s food bowl. Mom also reports she’s eleventy point eleventy-eleven percent sure Cocoa is sleeping over in Geoffrey’s straw-filled house almost every night.

When Cocoa isn’t around in the early morning hours, it’s a pretty safe bet Toughie is here waiting for food. He’s a mean tomcat and everyone gives him a wide berth. Everyone except brave mom who can pet him ever-so-lightly but never, ever after he’s just finished eating. That boy has a bad attitude!

Almost completely opposite of Toughie is longtime neighborhood cat, Scruffy, who always enjoys a pet from dad. We say, “Almost completely opposite…” because Scruffy is his own cat and while he likes a good petting, he’s got places to go and things to do and will only tolerate people for so long. Thankfully, his days of biting mom are long past.

We’re sad to say neither Church or Momo have been spotted in several weeks, though a few families have moved away from our neighborhood. It’s possible these handsome boys have new homes elsewhere and if so, we wish them well!

Editor’s Note: Out of the blue and as if he hadn’t been away, Momo came visiting yesterday before his dad scooped him up and put him back indoors where, his mom reports, he is learning to become an indoor only cat. Momo sustained another serious injury to his hindquarters a couple of weeks ago, this time requiring stitches at the base of his tail and they can’t afford the $$$ for another surgery every few months. We told her we had seen Toughie chase and bite Momo months ago and with that knowledge, they’re determined to keep Momo inside from now on where he will lead a safe life.

Sometimes, mom spots this new mystery Tuxie leaving the food bowl mid-mornings. She assumes this black and white kitty is a boy because he sports a brown studded dog collar (shhh, don’t tell him!), though the tag which she has not been able to see close enough to read as of yet, is a pretty red heart. And look! Black toe beans!

Super friendly neighbor cat Whittles is officially on mom’s poop list. His family loves that he’s a hunter and mom was all on board with that too when he caught several moles threatening to destroy the garden again. But when he traipsed through the yard with a bleeding, half-dead rabbit and later, snatched two birds from under the feeder, mom was one unhappy mom… so much so, she won’t open the window blinds upstairs in her office area anymore, she says. That window overlooks Whittles’s home front yard where he seems to be piling up the bodies of mole, vole, mouse, and now other creatures. Who wants to look at that??

Speaking of birds, here’s one that might consider Whittles as a meal if he’s not careful. A couple of these bald eagles fly high over the garden every couple of weeks taking advantage of the wind thermals we have around here.

We hope neither Whittles or the eagles pick on our rodenty squirrels! We like them.

Mom says she saw Limpy, the squirrel the other day, and that he looked very good for only having use of three legs. She didn’t get a photo of Limpy this time around but is convinced that’s just a matter of time. Also without photo, one of Trouble’s three babies (last year’s raccoon) has returned to raid the squirrel nut box in the late afternoons. Mom’s named her Lily (again, making an assumption on gender).

That’s about it for now. Something’s always going on outside and someone’s always stopping by it seems and we’re glad you could visit us too!

The toy box has a new toy in it today. One I would like. Or so I was told. I’m not big on most toys as you might remember. So after yawning and stretching and having breakfast and taking my time, I sauntered over to take a peek knowing full well I’d walk away and my mom would be wrong, as usual.

Well, wrong-O! I had that new toy in my mouth so fast, my mom couldn’t begin to capture my flash of speed with her camera as that toy fell under my complete control!

Note my paw draped over this toy, a Tickle Pickle my mom calls it. My paw denotes this is mine, in case there was any confusion.

As all toys deserve, all good ones that is, this one got a good sniff, a little nibble, and a bunny kick for good measure.

Reportedly, I *might* have gotten a little bonkers over this pickle.

Or maybe it was a lot bonkers. It’s hard for me to remember the exact degree of bonkerness. I mean, I was wrapped up in the moment.

Whichever, whatever, it wasn’t too long before I put my paw in the air like I just didn’t care. Paws up, mom. For a change you were right! Thanks for your toy persistence!

Note: I *might* have a smile on my face all day now.
