08/08/2018 – What a Wednesday!

We’re having one tough week here, Dad in particular who, after twenty-six years one month and four days at a company he loves, was let go, and secondly, Viola, who has a vet visit later today. Originally, she was going in for a simple baseline bloodwork panel and updating her vaccines, but yesterday, she came down with a case of runny, leaky poops and isn’t feeling well. Who can blame her? It’s nearly 100 degrees outside today and terribly dry inside and out, even with a humidifier going. Everyone is off their food and Dad’s news isn’t making anything better.

We could all use some good thoughts here, and if you are feeling overwhelmed, a little lost, and scared like we are, we hope Viola’s photo above can be of some small help.

Thank you.

  1. We are so sorry to hear about this! That poor guy… Such a long time to be at one place. Companies can be heartless. Viola, we hope your tummy gets better quickly. We are definitely purraying for everyone there. Pawhugs, dear furriends.

  2. Madi and Mom says:

Oh my word we are so very very sorry about your Dad being laid off. I tell you companies EXPECT loyal employees but they certainly don’t show their loyalty.
We will keep Dad and Viola in our purrs
    Madi and mom

  3. Rene S says:

I’m so very sorry! I am indirectly dealing with that where I work–three coworkers who were here 20+ years each were laid off a few weeks ago. It is hard. I hope that his employer is offering outplacement services–and a severance? Thinking of you and hoping everything turns out ok. And yes, kitties make everything better.

  4. The shock and sense of betrayal must be overwhelming, but please hold onto the fact that he was a valuable employee for them, and he will be for someone else! Their loss is another company’s gain. Get out that old resume, look up the new styles online, and write a new one, one that is a bit generic. Your cover letters can be specific. Re-writing that resume will make him realize all of his professional gifts! (I’ve been where he is!) Here’s hoping Viola makes a quick turnaround; please let us know!

  5. I know how you are all feeling since I went through that just two months ago. The way people are let go is unbelievable. You give so much of your life to your job and then you get no thanks. Take some time to relax and enjoy the kitties. I just got a new job and will start next week. I will admit the interviewing and applying got me down at times, but Hemingway and Steinbeck were always there to give me head bumps. I hope there’s nothing really wrong with Viola. She is such a sweetheart. You stood by me and I will stand by you. Fur people owners have a special bond.
    Hugs…………Pam
    Purrs……….Hemingway and Steinbeck

  6. We’re so sorry you’ve been having a tough time lately. That’s awful news for your dad. Seems like companies can be so uncaring. That’s one of the reasons why the mom retired when she did. She didn’t want to risk being let go unceremoniously even though she was always told she wasn’t at risk. But who knows? And we sure hope Viola is feeling better soon. Sending lots of purrs to all of you at Colehaus.

  7. da tabbies o trout towne says:

  8. Katie Isabella says:

Oh Viola, bless you darling girl. I went through that close to 2 yrs. ago. Scared us both.

To your Dad, I am so sorry. What a horrible thing to have to hear and deal with. I love Eastside Cats advice. Please let us know how Viola and you, dad, are. We really care.

  9. Sandy cooley says:

I’m sorry. I hope everything gets better soon and that this company realizes they need Dad back or that another company wants him for his skills and personality and pays him even more. I also hope Viola is OK. Sending good thoughts and purrs.

  10. Viola does not look too concerned. Thinks you might need another cuppa coffee, or maybe something stronger! Sorry what happened but it looks like you’re winning the Toughest Week Award this week. The cats here are not coping with the heat here very well either! Good luck to you all.

  11. Mary McNeil says:

We are sending purrayers & POTP for Dad & Viola . We just read some worrisome news at Siddhasrtha Henry’s blog, and last week when Little Binky was so sick, they think it had something to do with the terrible heat we are having. I got booted last September, but it was just a part-time job and I was able to finally retire.
As someone above pointed out – karma is coming !

  12. I am sorry for your dad’s bad news. Loyalty doesn’t seem to count for anything nowadays which is so wrong.
I hope Viola is soon feeling better.

  13. Margie says:

So sorry about the Dad’s bad news. That is not good but maybe better things will come along.
Hope Viola gets to feeling better soon. Take care.

  14. The Dash Kitten Crew says:

Sorry about your dad’s news. Companies are horrible, abandoning people with a lifetime of experience and skill. Their loss I reckon – I hope Dad find something he loves to do instead.

I love the fact people are let go, and governments are saying we all need to work longer because no-one is currently paying for their pensions ;-). They need to get a grip before we smack them one.

  15. Brian Frum says:

Dang, that’s awful, poor Dad, y’all give him lots of cuddles please. I sure hope Viola feels all better soon.

  16. We are sorry for your Dad’s bad news. We hope everything will be ok in the very near future. We here at the office are thinking about you all. The heat has been horrible here also. We sure hope Viola starts to feel better soon.

  17. Ellen Pilch says:

I am so sorry about the job loss, it is so sad that companies don’t appreciate people who give their lives to them.
I will be praying for you all. I hope Viola is feeling better. XO

  18. Sending purrs your way.

  19. Holly says:

Sorry about the job situation. Work issues just stink.
    Hope Viola feels better soon.

  20. Just Ducky says:

Mum says she went through the downsizing too a few years back. She sends love and hugs and hopes all will be well. She also hopes your “package” helps you transition to something new.

  21. That IS a rough week, but I know the next one and the one after that will be better. So sorry about Dad 🙁 We’ll say extra prayers that this is just a new direction. Lotsa love! – Tomx

  22. meowmeowmans says:

I’m so sorry to hear about Dad getting let go from his job. It’s unconscionable how some companies “reward” loyalty like that. Terrible. We’re sending love, purrs and all good thoughts for Dad, sweet Viola and all of you. Know that we love you, dear friends, and know that we care lots.

  23. Mark's Mews says:

That is mean what the company did to yer Dad! We hope another company values his experience and hires him soon. We are glad TBT here is safely retired…

And we hope Viola is feeling better soon.

  24. Summer says:

That’s terrible that company let the male human go like that. Paws crossed that Viola’s issues clear up easily.

  25. We’re so sorry with what happens to your dad, it’s awful. And we hope you feel better soon, Viola. Purrs

  26. Joan Ryan (KitKat) says:

We are sorry to hear about Dad’s job loss. We hope he can recover and be happier as a result. The days of the gold watch for long, dedicated years of service are long gone.
We hope Viola is feeling much better real soon.
Love and hugs to all at Colehaus Cats.
Angel Normie, Angel Mika, Sasha & Grady Lewis

  27. Oh no! We are so very sorry to hear about your dad’s job loss! We went through that nine years ago. Purring and praying he finds another if that’s the way he wants to go. (((hugs)))

    Feel better soon, Viola. (((hugs)))
