Now that the “kittens,” meaning Tessa, Pia, Olivia and Quint, are all over a year old, endearing personality traits have developed. Today, the focus is on Quint, our laid-back and relaxed boy. You already know he paints with acrylics (water-based for artists’ safety!) And he’ll sit in front of an open window for hours soaking up as much inspiration for his paintings as he can (we assume).
And he likes going shopping, especially at our local PetSmart. But at times, he’s still not sure about his walking harness.
On top of his dedication never to use his claws on Mom or the Dad, he’s become a bit of a talker…if you consider the softest of soft mews talking. Even when he’s angry or frustrated, he uses the same tone and volume of voice – extra, extra soft. You’d fall in love with it. He even talks to his favorite toys and to date, the longest conversation he’s had with one of his toys, a gray mousie, with Mom keeping time, has been seven non-stop minutes.
He’s also quite the lap cat especially with anyone sitting at the desktop computer. Too bad about not getting through all that email with him in your lap. You just can’t help but to give his rabbit-soft fur all your attention. Elsewhere, anyone on the downstairs couch is fair game. Ditto for anywhere his favorite sister Olivia is. He drapes over his long legs at all kinds of odd angles and purrs up a storm.
And sometimes, he blows raspberries at his sisters, but mostly when they aren’t looking.
We’ve been experimenting with swapping Quint and Maxx in and out of the master bedroom so Maxx can get some exercise. Quint goes into the room, Maxx comes out of the room. They can’t both be in the same room at once because Quint has some sort of fascination with Maxx’s tail. There’s nothing special about Maxx’s tail – it’s black and cream striped and somewhat short, but when the mousies are hiding, Quint thinks it’s the best toy in all the world. Needless to say, Maxx thinks Quint is the most annoying cat in all the world…but then again, Maxx thinks that of everyone.
So anyway, Quint isn’t afraid of the vacuum cleaner and he loves Greenies and mousies and the laser pointer and he’s learning to play fetch as if everything else isn’t enough. He’s a genuine sweetheart.
