Mancats, Shmancats!

In case you missed it, we posted a Dear Niblets letter on Saturday which included a first YouTube video of Erinn Zuzu and the Niblets.

Nine day old Illy, Viola, Robbie and Russel Niblet are growing so fast (See daily weight chart here)! Following our trusty “Guide to Raising Healthy Kittens” printout, by one week, each should weigh between four and seven ounces. Ha! They were seven ounces by day four (except Viola who wishes to follow the rules). By this time next week, either they’ll waddling out of their nursing box or running for your local city council.

And Erinn Zuzu. Best mama in the world. She loves her Niblet babies but sometimes a girl needs some me time!

In this house, girl cats rule and are just as brave!

Well, at least I am. My sisters are big chickens!

Dear Niblets – Week One.

Dear Niblets,

Today you are one week old. Perhaps you should have been called, ‘The Over-Achievers.’ You are all big for your age and that gives us more of you to love. And are those eyes we see beginning to open almost a week early? We weren’t sure what to expect when your mama came into our lives but now, we couldn’t imagine it any other way.

You are roly-poly, wee bundles of fur and baby fluff with your blue eyes ready to open to see the world and your tiny sweet earflaps make us want to nibble them. And so far, you are amazingly, remarkably, thankfully quiet at night. We know that will change. After the four hour online frenzy of your birth just a week ago, we’ve enjoyed this brief week of nighttime silence.

This past week, we gave you names. Someday, your forever families will probably change those but we hope you like what we picked for you for now. Soon, you’ll be able to hear things – your mama’s purring meows, us calling to you, the Ellen show on TV. We look forward to the weeks ahead, watching you become miniature cats and seeing your personalities develop. Thank you for coming into our lives. We are so happy to be a small part of yours.

Grow well, not-so-little Niblets.

Kisses and love,
Your human Mom & Dad

In Their Own Words.

Last week, before the arrival of the Niblets, we were asked what the other Colehaus Cats think of Erinn Zuzu.

Most of the Colehaus Cats don’t have access to Erinn except by view through a glass French door. Ruby and Maxx share Erinn’s room and there have been a few confrontations that we hope to have put an end to. Ruby, Maxx and Erinn all have their territories and the room is large enough for three cats. As of late Tuesday, extended secure fencing surrounds Erinn’s big enclosed cage to keep herself and her kittens well away from anyone’s reach.

So, let’s hear what those other Colehaus Cats have to say:

Ruby: What do I think about that orinch girl in my room? I know all about her woes and to that I say, whatever!

Maxx: Your room? I remember when this was MY room. Those kittens won’t get any noisier, will they? Because if so, I’ll have something to say. Pfhhhhhhhtttt!

A good Auntie - 2013 © Colehaus Cats

Miss Newton: That poor, round dove. I want to tuck her under my wing and tell her it’ll all be okay because I know where she’s coming from. Just like I took care of Pia Bean when she was just a wee one, I hope to be a good Auntie to those little Niblets when they are ready.

Tessa: Um, I’m busy right now. Can’t you see I’m holding up this window frame? Come talk to me later.

Olivia: But I’m supposed to be the Baaay-beeee! Too many orange kitties make me nervous. It’s like a gang or something and I always have to be on the lookout. Good thing for me, I blend into the shadows and when the moment is just right, I pounce! I don’t think I like that basketball with feet but kittens like to pounce, right?

There you have it. We look forward to hearing what Erinn has to say in reply but for the time being, she’s got other things on her mind.
