While Mom is paying attention elsewhere, namely at those other cats things upstairs, guess what I do? Anything a Ginger Princess sets her mind to, that’s what!
You won’t tell, will you? Good! I knew you could keep a secret.

The Niblets are becoming more active and if possible, more adorable! And we have names! But… we don’t have sexes yet, at least we’re not one hundred percent sure we have sexes yet. We completely fail at this, this seemingly simple thing. One of us will say, “Yep, that’s a girl!” while the other assuredly says, “Uh, not unless girls come with extra parts!” followed by, “There’s no extra parts there! Oh that! Everyone has one of those!” And then the discussion and arguing starts and meanwhile, kittens are mewing and Erinn Zuzu is all like, “Um, hello? I’d really like my Niblet back now!”
That said, we “think” we have sexes. So onto the names (which will change based on how wrong we were, but hey! It can only be one or the other, right?)
Many of you had GREAT names for the Niblets and we added them all to our Kitty Names book. Then, we ran each one through the shelter database and discovered so many duplicates! Mr. Colehaus decided he didn’t want anyone to have to be known in the records as Candy #65 or Frank #1,017. He wished them to have unique names not yet used by the shelter, yet individually picked to match each sweet Niblet.
Therefore, allow us to announce Niblet One, the dark Tortie/Torbie with a tail, is a girl and is named Illy (like the dark Italian coffee and rhymes with Lily).
Niblet Two, the dark Tabby bobtail, is a girl (probably) and will be called Viola.
Niblet Three, the light/dilute Tabby bobtail, is a boy (probably) and will be called Robbie.
And Niblet Four, the orange Tabby with a tail, is a boy and is named Russell.
Congratulations, Niblets! We hope you like your names as much as we love them. And if not, when each of you turn 18, you go right on out and change them to something meaningful to you, like Rainbow, Rubber Wedge, Alain-Henri or Porcupine.
We also think we’ve solved our protective mama Erinn Zuzu versus grumpy Maxx fighting thing with the addition of expanded fencing around Erinn’s cage. And she loves it! It’s like she lives in a gated community now! But don’t get the impression we spoil cats or anything…
This is actually fencing from the Small Pet Play Pen, a product we bought a couple of months ago for foster kitten use. We’re not using the waterproof floor mat or cover here but undoubtedly will once the kittens are up and about and need lots of room to play and explore and learn about how cool it is to have this thing called a litter box to pee in instead of pee pads and the floor!
The Play Pen is pretty sturdy and only time will tell if Erinn decides she wants to jump the fence (she’s not much of a jumper, thankfully). But for now, it works to separate her and grumpy Maxx perfectly!
