So over the summer this box arrived. Someone had to check it out.

Once in place… okay, truth be told, it was much bigger than we had imagined and wouldn’t fit where we thought it should go. Show of hands, who actually measures cat scratchers before purchase? We didn’t and won’t make that mistake again. But we found a perfect second spot and the sniffing and checking out began in earnest.

There was lots of discussion. What is this thing? It looks artsy. Is this some kind of furniture? The kind that mom yells at us not to get on and not to even breathe on it? She said it was for us but who in their right mind would make such a stylish scratcher, for cats? It’s cardboard like a box, right? Smells like cardboard. Who’s going to scratch it first?
We set Quint on it and Tessa and Olivia and made scratchy motions on it thinking someone would get the point of it. Each of them jumped off, stopped to straighten their furs, and after a bit more discussion, everyone went their separate ways, perhaps to think about this big scratcher on their own. Perhaps not to think of it at all. The scratcher sat there alone, unused, seemingly unloved, and taking up a lot of space. And we thought, “Well, there’s something else we probably shouldn’t have bought. Five bucks says they like the box better.”
And then, not more than a half an hour later, we peeked in at the big scratcher…

… and discovered someone was in love with it. And we thought, “Okay, this will be okay.”

The next day, Pia was all over that big scratcher, scritching and scratching on it just like everyone is supposed to. She even made it hers by sharing it with one of her boyfriend Dexter’s toys. “Delish!” she says while licking her chops.

And then she shared the big scratcher with her BFF Miss Newton who sleeps on it fairly regularly now.

Even Ruby came out of her room to check it out and wonders when she’s going to get her own.
The Pet Fusion Jumbo Cat Scratcher Lounge is a hit, though spendy, in our opinion. We used to be big Ess scratcher fans but Tessa absolutely destroys them within a couple of months. We like the high quality, tightly layered cardboard on this Cat Scratcher Lounge that has held up very well to eight cats scratching on it every day since July. And we know a little something about how most scratchers don’t hold up around here. The Scratcher Lounge looks nice, is sturdy enough to sit on or rest feet on, and wouldn’t make a bad ottoman or side table with the extra bonus of being something cats are allowed to work their nails on.
That said, if someone were to pee on it, we bet that would ruin it in a hurry. It is cardboard after all. So far, so good here though!
We weren’t paid for this review or given this cat scratcher and if it hadn’t held up, we probably would have said something about that. We are very impressed so far and are considering buying another Pet Fusion Cat Scratcher model (their smaller Infinity-shaped one) for Ruby’s room.
