Last Friday’s v-e-t visit with Olivia and Zuzu went very, very well. Olivia wowed everyone with her stunningly sleek supermodel good looks. She was a perfect lady the entire time and, dare we say, seemed to relax just a smidgen during her manicure.

Of course, she hated our guts once we returned home. We’re used to supermodel drama. We all got over it.

As for Zuzu, our butterball, she did not get dinged one bit for her pudgy tendency. Not a single mention of the words weight, diet, or creampuff. In fact, our vet recognizes Zuzu as we do: a mixed Pixie bobtail, a breed that does tend to carry more weight on the backside. Her current weight is just fine. Just don’t let her know there may be cookies in the fridge because the house can only handle so many grumpy divas at once.

And naturally, Tessa had to tease the v-e-t smelling girls after they came home because where’s the fun in not teasing someone?

We’re still waiting an appointment callback to talk face-to-face with our shelter manager about foster Miss Itty’s path going forward. We have questions and we know everyone has financial concerns. We’re hoping to figure something out regarding her almost certain and necessary upcoming health procedures but we know money is tight everywhere, particularly tight for non-profit shelters.

It’s times like this we tend to rely on our ability to provide shelter, our desire and discipline toward creating a good, healthy life, and our strong belief that while saving one animal won’t change the world, it will change the world for that animal.
