WHAT??!? Another one of those days with no flashbacks? Clearly, our Mom was slacking every February 16th those past six years so here’s a random post.

We’re taking Monday off and will see you again on Wednesday. Have a wonderful weekend!

02/14/2018 – For a Special Valentine

My dearest ginger prince D,

It’s Valentine’s Day and my Mom told me I’m facing the exact right direction to send you my kisses on the eastbound winds. So far, I have sent 439 kisses. If our strong windy weather continues, you should get the first ones around noon-ish, give or take an hour.

This year, I’m also sending you a never-before-released photo of me when I was just but a wee teensy kitten. My Mom says she has hundreds of these, taken when I was small. I looked at them all as Mom was clicking through them, and this one, I thought, was special enough to send to you.

And here, you can see how big I have grown and with all my floof, grows my everlasting love for you, sweetheart. Happy Valentine’s Day. Though we are far apart, may our love never end.

A quick update on Quint: Thanks to your good wishes and thoughts, Quint’s feeling better and seems to be almost back to his usual self. We did not have to take him to the vet or the emergency vet, though we were ready to do so at a moment’s notice. If he had barfed one more time, we were instructed to rush him in. We’re still not sure what happened; maybe he ate a bug or something he ate didn’t sit well with him. He had a lot of gas, so much it frightened him when he went to use the box, and didn’t poop for four days. Nevertheless, he never lost his appetite (he’s not a big eater) and kept up his usual water consumption (he’s a good drinker) and he stuck close to Mom for extra cuddles and attention… even when she was cheerleading for him while he was in the litter box.

02/12/2018 – MultiCat Monday

We’re not a real close snuggle kind of cat family, meaning everyone snuggles with Mom and Dad, but the cats snuggling amongst themselves? Well… it depends.

Olivia and Miss Newton don’t snuggle as much as they used to. If we check our handy-dandy Who Gets Along With Whom chart (WGAWW)*, we see that Olivia LOVES Miss Newton but Miss Newton could stand a whole lot less attention from our ten-pound dark mass of black cat.

Pia and Olivia sort of snuggle. It’s actually more like Olivia was sleeping there first, Dad took the other chair, and so, Pia decided to take the rest of the space, and Oh Look! A smaller cat is there. Okay, whatever.

“… zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz…”
Gotta love those gingery bunny paws. Pia gets along pretty well with everyone and frankly, she couldn’t care less if anyone didn’t get along with her. She’s a diva that way.

After putting up with Olivia, Miss Newton wanted in the big bedroom where Tessa was telling herself over and over how good she looked against the pale blue coverlet. Going back to our WGAWW chart, Tessa gets along with Miss Newton and Miss Newton gets along with Tessa just fine… until Miss Newton gets her wild hair late every afternoon and chases Tessa into corners to which Tessa growls and cries and knocks things over trying to get away.

(We realize we just spilt more of the beans on Danger Cat Tessa and her ever-softening ways by sharing that seven-pound Miss Newton chases twelve-pound Tessa into corners and makes her cry. Let’s keep this our secret!)

And this is the most snuggling you’ll probably ever see with these three independent Colehaus Cats.

The chart shows Sunny gets along with everyone, and by getting along with everyone let us remind you Sunny is the house Patrol Sergeant and everyone pretty much follows her rules. There will not be fights, there will be no shenanigans, there will be limited running amok (preferably between the hours of 1 a.m. to 3:38 a.m. and by permit only). Any activity more serious and Sunny intimidates everyone into submission by striding through the middle of the ruckus, sitting down, and glaring at all guilty parties who generally slink away in opposite directions.

One cat we can always count on to be a snuggler is Quint. When he’s not in his blanket fort, he’s usually snuggled up with someone, and his favorite co-snuggler is Olivia. These two get along famously and have since they were adopted together**.

*Who Gets Along With Whom chart subject to change at any time.

**While Quint and Olivia were technically adopted at the same time, they came from different foster homes and didn’t like each at all at first. During their mandatory two-week isolation and adjustment period, there were many full-blown fights between the two. Finally, Mom swore she would tie the two nine-week old kittens together*** until they either liked each other or turned 37 years old. The very next day, Quint and Olivia decided they were meant to be loving brother and sister.

***Mom says a lot of things, even crazypants things, sometimes. She would never actually tie kittens together to force them to get along. She thinks just the thought of that happening would work, and in this case, it did. Whew!

Quint’s been feeling under the weather for the past couple of days and we’re still not sure what might be going on. We thought maybe he had a bowel blockage but that doesn’t seem to be it. Urine output is good, eating and drinking water is good. Some barfs here and there alongside stinky gas from the other end have him feeling miserable. We’re watching him nonstop and will provide an update as soon as we get one.
