Thanks to Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Josette of The Cat on my Head!

Even though it was their Blogoversary (their 1st!), those cuties over at The Cat on my Head handed out awards! And we got one! They also posted a tasty photo of bacon which may or may not have had someone here licking the monitor screen.

Thanks, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth & Calista Josette!

Friday Flashback

Once upon a time, there was an orange boy and his name was Arie. Arie was a chubby kitten who grew into a chubby Mancat who loved to climb and jump. Or at least, in his mind he climbed and jumped. Arie was a big fan of testing physics, something his body never got the hang of. And for years, Arie swore his middle name was, “Just wait until your father gets home to see what you broke today!”

Regardless of broken things, chewed things, pawed and clawed things, oh, and drooled on things, we loved him. As a kitten, Arie was raised with a big dog and a toddler who couldn’t understand the concept of not strangling little things. So he joined our family and acted more dog than cat. He was our first who walked on a leash and he loved his green t-shirt. In his photo above, he’s also sporting a single strand of pearls and blue eyeshadow. THAT was Arie!

We lost Arie in the spring of 1999 to fatty liver disease. One of many Colehaus Cats never forgotten.

The Personalities – Olivia.

That Olivia. Sweet Baby O, she’s sometimes called. She’s sleek, supermodel-tall and thin and slinks around the house like a well-trained athlete…trained to snuggle! Olivia is a gentle, quiet sweetheart with a tiny voice she uses only when she wants to be followed upstairs so you’ll give her brushings and pettings. Oh, how that girl loves brushings!

In the Cat Den, she rolls around on a heated bed and demands her belly and armpits be brushed first (because we know all kitties love their armpits be brushed being as they can’t reach them themselves). And you’d want to brush her belly and armpits first because if not, she might stare you to death with her big green eyes.

Olivia loves playing with plastic rings (yellow ones are her absolute favorite). She flings them up the stairs and chases them back down again and guards them the best she can against Pia, who loves the yellow ones almost as much, but often loses them under the couch. Not to worry. the Dad rescues the rings from the couch monster once or twice a week and Olivia is in plastic ring heaven again.

In that downtime, when the rings are waiting to be rescued, she loves getting whiffies at the window. Bird TV is at it’s finest here, especially when the blue-violet swifts and swallows soar nearby. The swifts, who seek out Dad every spring (on account that he’s so tall and “closer up” to them) are her favorite bird to watch.

And when she’s not getting brushies or playing with her ring or watching the birds, she watches TV. Apparently, Miranda Lambert is a current favorite.

Olivia also loves the new silvery fountain in the Cat Den with its waterfall. Mom turns the water down so it doesn’t splash out and get all over the place. Olivia turns it up so it makes cheery loud, splashy noises. Mom turns it back down again. Up, down, up, down. Olivia thinks this is fun and Mom gets exercise.

Sure, on Mondays Olivia sits with Mom in front of the computer and tells what all the other Colehaus Cats have done over the past week that Mom doesn’t know about. Usually Mom does know but she enjoys Olivia’s company and listening to Olivia’s version of things. That girl can really spin a tale!

We won’t mention those occasional spats with Ruby or sometimes with Pia. Everyone needs to blow off a little steam now and then. Olivia is simply the best girl ever.

Ruby Tuesday

Sharing. What? Again? - 2013 © Colehaus Cats

Sharing. What? Again? – 2013 © Colehaus Cats

It’s Tuesday so hey, it’s me again. Ruby. Ruby who shares, apparently. Really, I’m not sure what to make of all this…this…togetherness. Not exactly what I signed up for, if you catch my drift.

Oh. Hey. - 2013 © Colehaus Cats

Oh. Hey. – 2013 © Colehaus Cats

I’d love to say having my favorite room all to myself all night long makes me as giddy as a looney kitten with string, but I’m a demanding girl. I’m not going to make apologies for that. I am what I am and I want the room ALL THE TIME to MYSELF.

What I’d like to believe is that I’m above than all the hissing and fussing those other cat-like creatures spit at one another. I don’t need any of that and that’s why I deserve my own room.

And, not to be difficult or anything, at the same time, I like the feeling of being above them all. Literally.

There he is, the Other one I have to share with. Right one cue. Like a blubbery leviathan rising from the deep.
