Maxx wonders: … and why is it again I’m not the only cat? I keep forgetting your logic.

Better he wonder that than when’s dinner. Again.

If you missed it, Saturday’s Dear Niblets, Week Four post is here. If all goes well and forever families are out there somewhere, the Niblets will only be with us for another month. The jury’s still out on Erinn Zuzu. We’ll know more after she goes in for her Spay Day in a few weeks.

What’d’ya mean the jury’s still out? I’d like to stay, please, especially if you get rid of all those other cats.

And yeah, well, that’s the issue, isn’t it? Sweet Erinn Zuzu got along reasonably well with some of the other cats before the Niblets came along. After the Niblets, not in the least. We’re pretty sure that has something to do with being extra protective of her babies. Understandable. Probably something to do with her being a seething ball of hormones right now too. Again, understandable. We’ll evaluate again after her Spay Day in a few weeks and after the Niblets find forever homes. We think she might fit in well but she will fill the absolute last spot open at Colehaus Cats. There is no wiggle room. And if another sweetheart comes along next year, we’ll have to take a pass.

Dear Niblets, Week Four

Dear Niblets,

A million kisses each day isn’t enough for you. We love you, your emerging personalities and your cute faces looking up at us each time we visit your room. This past week, you went from no teeth, to teething, to having teeth all within two days. How did you do this so fast? You learned about kitten litter boxes and we aren’t surprised in the least that none of you have a clue as to what that’s all about. We’re not worried. You will soon.

The time is approaching when you’ll be introduced to kitten formula in a bowl. Already it seems that some of you know a bowl is something very important and that it doesn’t run away when you rush toward it. And for those of you who think a bowl is something to wade in, well, we’ll work on that.

Congratulations on all of you weighing over a pound now. Yes, little Viola, we’re looking at you. We love that you, the continued smallest Niblet, were the first to learn to jump, even if it’s because you’re so little and that step out of the cage is so big for you to do anything otherwise. Keep growing, little one.

Illy, more of your Tortie color is coming through and we can see you are going to be gorgeous. And what pretty peepers you currently have! Even though we love your baby blues, we think your eyes are going to be golden amber like mama’s and that’ll add to your beauty. We’re in love with your calm, yet inquisitive, nature. We hope you always remain this sweet.

And who continues to be the Niblet Ambassador of Adorableness? Why, that’d be Robbie Niblet whose streak of firsts far outpace all the other Niblets. First to purr, first eyes open, first to run, first to tussle, first with teething, first to become a lap kitten. You have our hearts completely, little boy. Someone is going to get a very special boy when you’re adopted.

Russet Russell, your tussling ways crack us up every day. So serious yet, so gentle with little sister Viola. You are the perfect little/big brother any sibling would love to grow up with. And how you sit up after a tussle and look around as if to say, “Tussling? Who, me?” What an adorably awesome orange boy you’re growing into.

Last week, it was time to remove your big cage and open up your world a bit more. You all became free-range kittens! And what did you do immediately? Discovered the much smaller Pet Transport Device where you curled up all together and slept for hours. You might regret that thing someday. But it won’t be today. Today is about growing big and strong and continuing your quest to conquer the world, one squeeeee at a time.

A million kisses and oodles of love,
your human Mom & Dad

Erinn Zuzu asks for four more weeks of patience and strength. We’re halfway to Niblet adoption time. Before we know it, the Niblets will be off and gone, and hopefully, to wonderful forever homes in plenty of time to enjoy the holidays!

Meanwhile, Miss Newton is more than happy to have weaseled her way back into Ruby/Maxx’s room. “I like it in here. It’s quiet and fleecy and Ruby and I hold a secret amount of respect toward each other. Not that either of us would admit that in court, mind you.”
