Meeting Miss Newton.

Of all the Colehaus Cats, Miss Newton has been the friendliest toward new kitties. She took Pia and Tessa under her wing last summer (until Tessa turned into a wild teenage Danger Cat with Super Power Pee abilities) and helped welcome Quint and Olivia into the fold. She’s even helped comfort Ruby from time-to-time using just her quiet presence.

So, naturally, Miss Newton was our choice to visit the kitten room first when teaching the Niblet girls about other kitties.* Viola, the Brave, was up for the challenge.

Miss Newton: Nope! No sir, I don’t like ’em!

And so, we witnessed the first hiss ever seen from Miss Newton. Clearly, more work is needed, but slowly… slowly…

*For safety reasons, mama Erinn Zuzu was placed temporarily in Ruby and Maxx’s room during Miss Newton’s meet & greet with the Niblets. Because Erinn Zuzu continues to be very, very protective of her Niblets, we’ll continue to practice this separation during visitations until she is spayed in January.

So the people told me about a kitty who was brought here from the shelter last year as a Home for the Holidays experiment (because they believe that kind of program shouldn’t be limited to just dogs) and I was surprised to learn that kitty was Ruby! She lives in the other room where I had my kittens last October. I guess the people are having a really long holiday or something because Ruby is still here.

I like Ruby most of the time but she doesn’t talk much to me. Sometimes, not often, when I’m feeling frisky or agitated, I don’t like her. The people here say that Ruby prefers not to fight back and I don’t mean to pick on her, or on that big boy cat that lives in there too, I just don’t know where my future lies yet and that scares and agitates me. So I’m trying not to think too far ahead.

I feel the same about all those other cats who live outside my room and from what I’ve seen so far, there are a lot of them. The people here told me not to worry, to just stay healthy and as long as I kept teaching my kittens good manners, they’d give me a few days a week off and away from them. A little ‘Me’ time out of the kitten room and in the room with Ruby and that boy cat.

That’s working pretty good so far. I’m not sure if I’m up to getting along with the rest of those cats (Why are there so many??) but I’d sure like to be the people’s Home for the Holidays cat this year! What do you think?

Ruby Tuesday.

Hi all! I’m way up here on my big bed that I’ve been kind enough to hand over to my brother Maxx for a while since I’m so in love with my comfy box lately. I’m just checking out the scenery… yep, everything’s still here. My grumpy brother hasn’t changed a thing. So typical!

Before I nestle back into my box though, I thought I’d mention that in the whole year I’ve been here (almost), I’ve seen lots of changes and all of them good. I picked my own name change from the start, I have changing scenery from my own personal window, my lady changes up my sleeping spots almost as if she knows I’m ready for something new and I have good food and treats and toys every day. I listen to stories and snuggle at night after nightly brushies that I love! I made friends, kind of, and became Auntie Ruby to wee kittens. Who knew this could be so fun?

And to help me with those changes, my lady dedicated an entire day to me on this blog – Ruby Tuesday. I liked that but now I’d like another change. I told her it’d be okay to end Ruby Tuesdays after the first of the year so she could focus more on reading me stories and taking more pictures. That’s right; more flashy box time. That’s only fair, right? Right! Besides… I sort of like taking pictures. What a change, huh? Our secret, okay?

Anyway, my lady will get back to posting pictures of me and all the rest of my family Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays as of the first of the year, just like used to be the norm around here before me and those time-consuming Niblets showed up. Well… at least until someone else comes along and we need another special day! MOL!

Thanks, lady, for an entire year devoted just to me! That was a long welcome mat! Purrs…
