Ruby Tuesday – Visitors.

Something is up today. The lady said we’re going to have visitors but that they wouldn’t come bother me. Unless it’s that jolly man in the red and white suit. He can bother me all he wants as long as he brings treats and nip and boxes.

Something is up today. That’s what my mom said anyway. She might have heard that from the cat who shares my room in which case she’d just be repeating a rumor. You didn’t hear anything from me.

The something that’s up had better not be someone, namely ME, being put back in a cage for another trip to that V-E-T. Because I won’t be anywhere as nice as I was last week when I only drew blood. Just sayin’…

As long as my brother Quint and my mom are close by, something being up today isn’t going to bother me too much. I just hope they are quick about it.

Something’s up is no surprise to me. I like visitors. And surprises! My foster dad says we have some good ones coming up this week, beginning tomorrow! The hardest part is waiting, but if I have to…. I will!

All we Niblets want is more time climbing up this cool tree! C’mon, Winter! Get up here!

Visitors and surprises are coming our way. Hey, here’s one now! A FedEx truck just pulled up out front! We hope you all have a wonderful and joyous Christmas Eve!

Festivus and the Airing of Grievances.

Click to enbiggin, please.

Not wanting the Niblets to get all the holiday attention, Pia insisted she have her own Christmas card this year and… that might have had something to do with wanting to share with her boyfriend Dexter of Cherry City Kitties. In that case, D’s going to see it twice because Pia demanded Mom post it on Facebook last week. So here it is (again) for everyone else.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Today is Festivus, a parody holiday sometimes celebrated here at Colehaus. We generally forgo the official dinner, setting up an unadorned aluminum pole, the labeling of easily explainable events and the feats of strength unless insisted upon.

But we don’t pass up the Airing of Grievances. Someone or many someones often have things to say here so this is their big chance to let loose on all those year-long stored up complaints.

Maxx complains: Just because I’m a big boy doesn’t mean I should always get stuck with the battleship-gray crate.

Our comments: Actually, it does mean just that, Maxx, because you’d get stuck IN our colorful smaller crates. But we understand your point and we’ll work on changing that next year. Colorful Sharpies or stickers, perhaps? Next!

Miss Newton says: I don’t want to complain but… I don’t think I get enough online air time.

Our comments: Fair enough. Just remember who doesn’t like the flashy box the next time Mom has it out, okay? Next!

Tessa complains: Someone, whose name begins with M-O-M, keeps taking my pee. I know just where I left it and then, suddenly, it’s gone. Why is that? Don’t you know I’m putting my pee where I think it should go? And maybe more importantly, where IS it going? Somehow, I don’t think it’s being used for anything more important, and this place just isn’t the same without my pee. So I’d like my pee back, please. All of it!

Our comments: You’ve got to be kidding. Tessa, your grievance is over removal of urine? Next!

Pia withdraws her grievance because her holiday card was posted twice. Whew! Missed a bullet there!

Quint says: Step away from my train, Olivia. It’s mine! I’m commandeering this thing.

Olivia counters: I think your train is short a caboose!

Our comments: So, no real complaints here, we take it? Anyone? Anyone? Okay, next!

Ruby mentions: Not really a grievance or anything but could I share something other than just a stunningly gorgeous photo of me? Something with a little artsy pizazz?

Our comments: What, a semi-blurry photo of you at your morning yoga not cutting it, Ruby? Okay, consider your request done.

Thankfully, Erinn Zuzu didn’t have a single grievance to share especially since she’s been getting daily time away from the Niblet girls. She says: I wasn’t here for a whole year. Plus, I was taken care of while I had kittens. Nope, no complaints. I think you should take all those other grievances with a speck of kibble.

Our comments: We’ll do that, Erinn Zuzu!

As for our own grievances, Dad has a cold and Mom is trying hard not to catch it before visitors arrive tomorrow. 2013 was a big year and we’ll recap all that next week. And with that, it looks like we survived another Festivus! Hope your grievances are aired and properly addressed!

Dear Niblets, Week Eleven.

Dear Niblets,

It’s been a week since Russell left for his forever home and two weeks since Robbie went to hers. We hope they are doing well with their forever families and are learning all about the holidays. We’re sure both are on Santa’s good list and will enjoy treats and lots of extra love on the big day next week.

In the meantime, Illy, Viola and Winter, you just might get more than a million kisses on Christmas day because how could you not? Kittens on Christmas day? What could be better than that? Not much we can think of.

Illy, you purr now almost every time you crawl into our laps and you crawl into our laps every time we spend with you. Could you teach your sister Viola how to purr like that? We’ve yet to get a purr out of her, not that we don’t believe her time is coming or anything. More of your gorgeous Tortoise shell coloring is coming out, pretty Illy, as well as a shiny, sleek coat coming through your soft kitten fur. And with your mama’s amber eyes, you are going to be so beautiful when you are older! We so hope we’ll get to see you in an update months and years down the road.

And, sweet Illy, we love your budding talkiness. Good morning to you, you seem to be saying when we first open the door to your room. Good afternoon, good evening and good night seem also to be in your vocabulary and always in a tiny, sweet voice. It’s hard not to hold you all the time and give you kisses. You are simply adorable!

Viola, your lack of purring is the only thing you’re short of. You’ve picked up where Robbie left off with greeting us every morning, except you do it with a bit more pizazz by way of ‘Velcro-ing’ onto our pants legs. We’ll work on that and continue to be grateful that you don’t weigh twenty pounds when you do it. And speaking of weight, you’re not too far behind your sister now. We’re proud of you for working on that. And cute? As cute as a bug! Or a cheetah kitten, one who’s learning to run and jump just as fast. Must be those gorgeous long legs you’ve started to sprout! We have little doubt you’re going to be long and lean into your teenage years and beyond.

Winter, sweet, quiet Winter. You’ve been with us for two weeks and we’re starting to see your personality shine. You absolutely love mama Erinn Zuzu who loves you back every bit as much as one of her own. You are playful and independent and have proven that you don’t need anyone else to have a good time yet, you adore romping with your Niblet sisters Illy and Viola as much as curling up with them to nap in a pile. And nap you do! You are the nappiest kitten we’ve seen. But then again, as pretty as you are, with your clear blue eyes and creamy, soft fur, your marble toes and slim, stripy tail, we figure it’s all about the beauty sleep because, little girl, you are beautiful! While you may not be as adventurous as Illy or Viola, your own quiet and calm personality is the perfect compliment to those rambunctious girls.

Our time with you is running short, our million kisses are winding down. If we could stop time, we would right this minute. We can hardly believe that soon, this precious Niblet time will have passed.

Seemingly like a whirlwind you all came into our lives and left having changed us forever. We are better because of you and will never, ever forget any of you or our time together; through all the weeks of your mama’s growing belly and finally, your births, through all the nursing, the weighing and the cleaning, the moving and adjusting, all the playing, all the storytime readings, the times we just sat and watched while you all slept and marveled at how ones so small could affect us so profoundly… we have been changed and the very thought of not hearing or seeing or touching or kissing you every moment as we have for the past eleven weeks is almost too much for our hearts to bear. But we will carry on without you when you find your homes and hope for you the very best of kisses and constant love will come from your forever families forever until we meet again many, many, many years from now.

Thank you for coming into our lives, Niblets, for teaching us, for having patience with us, for wanting to spend time with us each and every day and for bringing such joy to our hearts. We will always love you, now and forever.

Your foster Mom and Dad
