Summer is here, everyone says. We cats know these things. It feels warmer, we’re shedding fur all over, and I get to go out for walks. And when I go out for walks in the garden, I always feel like painting afterward.

But first, I have to find inspiration. Dad knew to take me straight to where the color is. He’s smart, my dad is.

Mmmm, red.

Quint finds summer orange –
Oh yeah, bright yellow and orange, where have you been all winter?

Once back inside, mom could barely set up my studio quick enough. Blue came first because even though my photos don’t show the sky on my walking day, it was very pretty. You’ll have to trust me on that.

I debated stopping there but then I remembered those pretty summer colors – red, orange, and yellow so I added those.

Adding a few drag lines – 2015 © Colehauscats.com
I’ve learned to add the yellow last so the color doesn’t muddy with the others. So many art rules to stick to. I also added some more blue and then dragged my toesies in a few places because sometimes I like to do that. That’s one rule no one told me about.
Here’s one of my finished paintings. My mom is calling them my quiet summer fireworks. I don’t like loud booming fireworks so what else would I have painted but quiet ones? I’m okay with her naming my paintings. If it were up to me, I’d call them Mew mew Meow Rarw meow and be done with it but what do I know?
