3/2/2026 – Springing for Monday

We see you, Tessa, looking out that window. See anything good today?

Well, if good you mean rain, then, sure. Let’s call it good rain.

You’re starting to sound like Mom, calling rain good. We’re woefully behind on rain amounts, she says.

Okay, stop. I lied. I was hoping to see a sign of spring, or dryness, or warm. Hey, warm! There’s a thought! I remember warm. I think I remember warm. Can’t you do something about that?

Now, there’s a trick I’d like to see. Good luck with that request, sister! I’ve been trying to get them to do something about the cold weather for years.

Look you two, spring is just a mere 19 days away. Before you know it, Mom will be out there doing her winter cleanup, mucking through mud and making things pretty for you to look out and enjoy for months. We can’t have pretty flowers without some cold wet weather first. So, stop complaining.

I might stop complaining but you can bet I’ll be sitting right here, counting down every one of those 19 days, and at the end of it, Spring had better be here if it knows what’s best for it.

Hmmm, someone sounds even grumpier than usual in their older age. Happy 14 years old, Tessa.

2/27/2026 – Friday Returns

Just when we were convinced we’d never see Millie or Tuxie Boy again, look who showed up yesterday morning. Millie and Tuxie Boy!

Millie looks like she’s put on a little bit of weight but not enough and no where near how she should look at this time of year. Tuxie Boy was his usual talkative self, demanding that raccoon move from that feeding station so Mom could put out some of his favorite dried catnip chicken treats. Soon enough, boy. Let Millie eat a little. She needs it.

Good to see you both again. Not many people worry about visiting raccoons but Mom was plenty worried. You can see what Millie thought of that kind of nonsense.

Editor’s note: We’ve lived here for 26 years, have had visiting strays, semi-feral and feral cats all that time and have actively known of visiting wild raccoons for 21 years. Not once have we heard or seen the cats and raccoons have a problem with one another. No complaining, no fighting, no killing. We know that our situation is unique and not everyone will have the same experience.

2/25/2026 – Few Words for Wednesday

Nothing to see here, other than Quint resting his chin on the corner of the microwave. No, really. He was standing there resting his chin. Maybe his chin needed rest and this was the only thing the right height? It could have been worse. He could have decided to rest his paw in the oatmeal cookie batter.

Oh wait. That happened yesterday.
