“That wasn’t so bad!” Quint says after a surprisingly short fireworks session outside our windows last Tuesday evening. Everyone out there blowing up their hard-earned paychecks even stopped at midnight. Amazing! Yes, Quint, that wasn’t so bad. Too bad they couldn’t have waited until the fourth to fire off a few deep boomers. Someone was setting off really big fireworks every evening right up until July fourth. Since then, nothing. Yippee!

“I’m staying right here, just in case,” says Pia who, when not under the bed blankets, hid out in one of the tower cubbies. Well, most of her hid out. That tail and her back footies stuck out.
Over the past week, once again we realized how spoiled we are in that we have air conditioning. Or that we had air conditioning right up until the previous week. Our heat pump’s mother board somehow melted itself and another part wouldn’t arrive until after the fourth, the same week our area set record high temperatures.
We used every one of our six fans, usually kept in storage, and inside the house only got up to 87 degrees; that being with all blinds tightly shut during the day and allowing cool overnight air to waft in early each morning. And thank goodness for a service contract we bought three years ago, otherwise, this would have been spendy! All is good now, just in time for lower daytime temperatures. Isn’t that just the way it goes sometimes?

The only one who liked the heat was Olivia. She’s always been a chill cat, in that she’s cool and laid-back, not in liking cool weather. She’s a heat lover and the past week was good for her. She’s still going through spells of not eating, despite her appetite stimulant, and is down to just over five pounds. She goes back to the vet at the end of the month for X-rays.
Elsewhere, Viola and Tessa were off probably glaring at one another but outside…

… Murray waits for Mom to come spend some time outside. Murray is a sweetheart and does have a home elsewhere (where, no one knows). She loves brushing and even allows full-on belly rubs. And in typical Mom fashion, Mom’s already worrying about what happens with Murray when summer ends and cold weather and rain return.
Stop worrying, Mom. Get out there and pet the cat!

Well, it’s that booming, flashy time of year and once again, for all the talk of fireworks being illegal here, in all actuality, people don’t care and buy and set them off anyway. Mom works the days of and after July 4th; she’ll probably be leaving for work while fireworks are still going off Wednesday, so she can’t spend the night under the bed in the fort she makes for all frightened kitties here. Everyone will be okay. She’s promised lots of treats.
Let’s hope the fireworks die down sometime before, let’s say, September 3rd because already, Tessa’s had just about enough of this fireworks nonsense.

Because of schedules and unexpected heat pump repairs and likely, a few poor nights of sleep, we’re taking a week off from blogging. See you Monday, July 10th!
