Mysterious things are afoot around here lately. I’m not afraid to report them or question some decisions my Mom and Dad have made. Like on yesterday. Yesterday was Sunday and that usually means Mom gets up in the middle of the night to assure her work sleep schedule isn’t “out of whack,” whatever that means.

But she didn’t. She slept and slept and slept some more, even after when she got up briefly with Dad to look at the puffy white snow stuff that fell overnight by everyone’s surprise, including the local weather people who we all question anyway. My Mom didn’t go outside, she didn’t pull on shoes and stand out in the snow in her pajamas like she usually does. She just looked out the window for a while and went back to bed. Hmm.

Then, yesterday, Mom and Dad celebrated Christmas because my Dad has to work all this week including Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Mom says I can celebrate real Christmas with her since she’ll be home all week but I like it better when my Dad is home, too. Not this year, my Mom said. This year her and Dad’s lives has switched and she’s home for the holidays and Dad has to work. What kind of world has this become? I have a weird Dad.

Then, some people came to the door and took a BIG box Mom had pulled out the closet that had something called a Christmas tree in it. I’ve never seen a Christmas tree and my Mom says that’s perfectly fine with her because Christmas trees and cats don’t get along. And then she looked at my sister Tessa who squinted her eyes at Mom and looked pretty smug if you ask me. I’m not sure but I think that meant something only Tessa and Mom know about. I have a weird sister.

And later still, while I was still hiding from the visitors relaxing in a bedroom, Mom traipsed in with paint brush and bucket in hand and announced I could stay to watch her paint the walls. Really, Mom? You’re off for the holiday week and you’re going to spend it, not resting, not sleeping, not petting and brushing me, but painting walls? I have a weird Mom.

In a nutshell, it’s a weird, mysterious holiday season this year. You’re not going to convinced me otherwise.

That is nice that your mom will be home with you for Christmas. That is a very smug look from Tessa. I think she knows all about Christmas trees and their dangly toys.

  2. catscue says:

No one appreciates a change but a baby – MOL! You’ll adjust sweetie and enjoy the unusual holidat schedule I’m sure.

  3. 15andmeowing says:

Things do sound strange there. I hope you have a Merry Christmas despite not having a tree. My kitties ( including the ferals) have all been good with the tree and only take some ornaments off the bottom. XO

  4. Olivia, you must remember that cats do not understand the things that humans do, nor vice versa!
Sounds like your mom was not feeling well; hope she’s all better now.

  5. Wow, lots of strange happenings!!!

  6. Everything is topsy-turvy this holiday!

  7. Phew…surely lots of weirdness at your house! Not a typical holiday week here at ours either.

  8. Brian says:

That does sound really strange but I’m sure all will be okay!

  9. Summer says:

Yeah, it sounds like your holiday week is all upside down!

  10. Those are some changes. Even though it’s weird, we’re sure you’ll have a wonderful day with your mom. Happy Holidays, friends!

  11. meowmeowmans says:

Wow, strange things are afoot at Colehaus. But all in all, there is still love, and that is a a most wonderful thing. XO

  12. Mark's Mews says:

We all have hiding places. TBT knows wher (most of them) are but he respects our privacy when we want to be in them.

Did yer Mom paint a Chrissymouse Tree on the wall?
