It’s Mom’s special day and so, why not start out with sweet Viola barely tolerating things on her head. Viola’s not a fan in the least of Mom’s “game” of putting toys on cat heads for photo enjoyment. Mom says that’s what makes it so special. Needless to say, Viola was not thrilled but Mom was.
Mom’s also thrilled over this daylily blooming, having survived two big transplants, an almost drowning by winter rains, a burial under mud and an iffy-at-best replanting that turned out close to perfect. Mom does love the few daylilies she has left and this one was special in that it was unceremoniously ripped out of the ground for last year’s arbor project and buried in a pot under a foot of poor rocky soil. When the project ended, it’s original spot in the garden was taken up by an arbor post with all that great soil hauled out and away. With trial and error and a lot of determination, Mom shoe-horned a spot for it near where it had once thrived and this year, it returned to blooming. Whew! Daylilies aren’t usually much work. This one was special and deserved the attention.
Also special, we have raccoon babies! A smallish raccoon mama, probably not Millie who visited us in early spring, is showing a family of four babies all the cool places to scamper about in our backyard – the empty feral shelters, the fountain, the wooden back deck-lette steps, all the rocks to climb on, the plants to hide under and the entrances/exits in and out of the fence purposefully made cat and raccoon size. As soon as mama raccoon makes it possible, we’ll get photos to share.
We’re going to give Mom a day off from blogging on Friday, July 31st and will be back on Monday, August 3rd. She has a LOT of things going on right now, that despite all her planning for everything to follow neatly one after the other, all have a decided to happen at the exact same time.
