Oh my stars! Thank you for this. I need to put upstairs open to downstairs on my list of don’t want (in a new house)! I can imagine our vocal cat just hanging out like this and YEOWLING from an area like this. She already does it from the top of the stairs, this type of set up would be a stage for her!
