So… this weekend I was supposed to go for my annual Spring walk in the garden for my painting inspiration. If you recall, Mom promised we’d go out this weekend, though she says that would happen only if the weather cooperated.

Guess what happened? Oh sure, it was sunny all right. Not rainy, not cold or chilly. Perfect for a garden stroll. Except….

This is our fountain in our backyard. You might have noticed it in photos before. See anything amiss?

Here’s a closer look. Is this a fountain or a pile of rocks? On Saturday, it was a big ol’ ugly pile of rocks because there was no water running in it. Apparently, Mom forgot to mention this was the day our fountain needed to be mucked out and the filter material replaced. And that it’s a day long job!

First, Mom and Dad got up surprisingly early and started digging out rocks to find the fountain pump. I’m not including a photo of the old filter material because I know some of you might be having breakfast. I trust Mom when she says it was gross and smelled awful.

It took hours to pump out water, scrub everything done both in the filter well and up in the fountain itself. I have a lot of patience but it’d just be crazy-talk to scrub every single rock clean of moss. (Mom here: Shhhh. I did not scrub every single rock of moss.) And when at last, the water ran clean, it was time to refill the filter well.

And now, theoretically Mom says, everything should be good to go until the year 2020. Really, Mom? So you’re saying you and Dad could have cleaned the fountain out last year, freeing up this very weekend for my Spring walk… and you chose to wait? Just tell me it’s time for my walk. Please.

Denied again! While Mom was scrubbing mossy rocks, Dad was digging out an old flowerbed. Once the water was back in the fountain and everything was running again, they decided to work some more over here INSTEAD OF TAKING ME OUT FOR MY WALK!

Just so you know, all this is what I’m missing. This was Saturday’s flower show in my garden. No problem you might say. We bet you get your walk in on Sunday, you’d quip. But no again! Sunday, the wind was blowing so hard, patio furniture was scattered around and flowers were sailing through the air, and Mom said, “Nope. Sorry, Quint. I’m not subjecting you to all this wind today.”

To be honest, I’m not a big fan of wind. I know some kitties look magnificent with the wind in their furs, but sadly, I’m not one of them.

Back to the point, for three weeks I’ve been promised to go on my Spring walk for my Spring painting inspiration and for three weeks, the closest I’ve gotten to my favorite flowers is looking through the living room window and smudging my nose on the glass.

It’s not that I’m blaming my Mom; she can’t control the weather. But at this rate, I won’t get outside until summertime! So tell me, would you forgive your Mom for not taking you for your first annual Spring walk when the flowers looked so pretty? Me, I’m still thinking on that one. *sigh*

Mimi says she could take at least a few minutes. You need to yell at her. It works for Mimi.

  2. Awww… Maybe you’ll get to go out for a walk today or tomorrow? Your flowers do look SUPER pretty. You don’t want to miss out on that first annual Spring walk, for sure.

    Purrs,
    Seville

PS. Quint, what’s that pretty periwinkle or lavender-blue shrub in your garden? Its colour is GORGEOUS, for sure. purrs

That is an azalea called Crater Lake, my Mom says. Clear blue lavender color flowers however the shrub does tend to get range-y and is best trimmed back hard (6-12 inches off the top) right after flowering. Does well in sun but better in half sun and a little shade.

  3. So frustrating, Quint! And I’m waiting for a reveal of your new art…and you haven’t even started yet…bummer. Hoping all of this anticipation will really get your creative juices flowing, when you finally GET OUTSIDE for inspurration!

  4. mariodacat says:

i haven’t had my first annual spring walk yet Cole either. It’s always one excuse after another. Your flower bed is gorgeous tho. Maybe that is a sign of things yet to come.

  5. Terri says:

Your humans should take you on a walk after dinner. A little fresh air always makes for better digestion 🙂

  7. Toby & Leia says:

Well, FINE. If you can’t get outside for inspiration, your mom and dad will simply have to do without your amazing artwork. They sure won’t be happy about that, will they?

  8. Rene S says:

What a rip off, Quint! Doesn’t she know that kitties come first?

  9. Fountain or rock pile, it’s beautiful either way and I want one!

  10. We are so sorry you didn’t get to go for your walk! Cleaning the fountain sure sounds like a lot of work! We think maybe you should forgive your mom because she wants everything to be pretty for you. Hopefully you will get to go on your walk soon!

  16. Wow, time to crack the whip on them humans if they keep denying you your walk!

  17. You could have gone out and snoopervised the mucking out of the fountain, Quint.

  18. How disappointing, Quint! It’s better if you’re able to go walking past a sparkly-clean fountain, though, so maybe it will be worth it in the end.

  19. Pretinha says:

Pense que o jardim vai ser uma boa inspiração para sua arte, querido Quint.
Antes do verão sua mamãe vai leva-lo para o seu tradicional passeio de Primavera. Se isso não acontecer você pode contar com nossas patas para um protesto! hihihi
