A quick Erinn Zuzu ‘Pumpkin Spice’ Niblet update: Baby Niblets are still baking but we’re pretty sure they’re just about done. Erinn is doing a lot of sleeping on her back, belly exposed, legs in the air, giving her tired back a rest and giving us a great view of things to come. We’re finally to the point ourselves of being very excited about Niblet arrival and have our expectant-mama-to-be basket of important things at the ready for anything – plenty of towels, heating pad, kitten bottles and formula, regular vet and emergency vet phone numbers, dental floss, alcohol wipes, scissors, notebook and pen and camera.
We’re pretty sure Erinn is not a first-time mother-to-be so we’ll give her plenty of quiet space during her delivery as to not cause her extra stress. We’ll be close at hand though just in case.

About a week after we filled Geoffrey’s House with hay we found at PetSmart (meant for guinea pigs or something like that), someone moved in! It took a week to discover who though we can’t seem to get a picture of him (for proof because you know, it doesn’t exist if there are no pictures).
Dallas is an all white cat who lives down the hill and around the corner from us. He’s not deaf as many all white males tend to be, he’s neutered and has one pale blue eye and one pale green eye. He’s a friendly cat, but only on his own property. The problem is, he’s hardly ever on his own property and he acts almost like a feral cat everywhere else! So not only is it near impossible to photograph him, it is impossible to get within ten feet of him.

Here’s Dallas this past spring when he was stealing some of Geoffrey’s food up by our front door. What’s amazing is not that we got a photo or two but that one of us had the camera ready in our hand and the door was open when Dallas showed up!

Last week, we discovered the hay in Geoffrey’s House was flattened down in the center as though someone had slept there overnight. So early the other morning, we were extra quiet opening our side door to see if anyone was in the house and out like a shot ran Dallas. Since then, we’ve seen him hanging around the house a few more times and early in the morning, the flattened hay inside is still warm to the touch. We couldn’t be more happy! Setting up Geoffrey’s House, even after Geoffrey’s passing without him ever getting to see it, has proven to be worth the time, money, tears and effort.
Who is not interested in living in some hay-filled house is Mo. He’s one of the new renter neighbor cats that arrived last month. Mo is a great garden cat, loves going for a walk in the garden and pouncing on falling leaves and sticks.

And he’s a good listener. We were discussing next year’s garden plans and he was all ears.
