10/31/2022 – Halloween Monday

Viola and her Trebuchet © Colehauscats.com

Happy Halloween Monday! Viola has her trusty trebuchet loaded with kibble to fend off any hungry hoard, meaning Tessa who gets a kibble treat twice a day or more should she snatch Olivia’s daily treat practically right out from her lips.

Mom is working today, as usual, but under her full length clean room “bunny suit,” she has on her “We all meow down here – kITten” t-shirt. Mom has a coworker who constantly spouts how much he hates cats, and by constantly Mom says in the nine months she’s worked with him, she’s yet to hear one single conversation in which this coworker does not mention hating cats. Somehow, regardless of conversation topic, cats come up. Does he really hate them? Who knows. Mom has taken to mentioning how much she dislikes basketball, knowing this coworker gambles weekly and loses on games, hoping that it would be enough to stop the cat hate comments. That tactic has yet to work. Her t-shirt surely won’t help but she’s not going to change her life and tiptoe around such people.

Stay safe tonight and don’t eat too many sugary things!

10/28/2022 – A Visitor

Months ago, we captured a photo of a new outside visitor to the Colehaus garden. He wouldn’t come within 25 feet of Mom who tried luring him near with a crinkly treat bag, and Mom so badly wants to get a better look at him. He did eat a few treats we left out in one of the feeding stations the other day, or we’re pretty certain he was the one who gobbled them down. Still, no dice on showing any sign of friendliness. He takes off like a shot at the sound of human voices, even faster at the sight of anyone nearby.

So imagine Mom stifling a SQEEEE when she looked out our front window at cold, pouring rain and saw this same kitty napping on a chair cushion. She had to stick her head in a closet to let out a squeak of joy!

We’ve named him Murray and made extra sure we didn’t scare him off (sorry for the poor photo). We hope he discovers the feral shelters in the backyard now that new warming mats and fresh straw are in. He might fit into one. We remember another gorgeous tabby boy who was too big to fit into those shelters and the group of raccoons that lived under a backyard neighbor’s deck who took him into their den for the winter. Mac made it okay, and with daily kibble we put out in the feeding stations in our side yard, we hope Murray will, too.

Tile work is done! © Colehauscats.com

Our shower tile work is done! And we love it. Now, before any of you ask why we put a hole in our shower, that’s not a hole. It’s a “Shower Niche” and it’s a shallow shelf where you put your shampoo bottles and soap. The niche back tiles are a light blue/gray glass tile and we repeat, that isn’t a hole to some other room or dimension. Mom made the very grave mistake of showing this same photo to three coworkers yesterday and every single one of them asked why we put a hole in our shower wall. Additionally, every single one of those three had never heard of anything called a shower niche in their lives, adding, “We just put our shampoo bottles on the floor. Why, again, did you put a hole in your shower wall?”

Needless to say, Mom won’t be sharing anymore photos at work. She doesn’t think she’ll tell anyone she used to thumb through, and drool over, home design magazines at the local grocery stores, either. Is a shower niche such an odd thing? Or did we watch too many HGTV home shows back when we could afford cable?

Anyhoo, we like this and Mom said it’s worth all the overtime she’s put in over the summer. In fact, the cost so far hasn’t been that much more than had we simply chosen to replace the acrylic shower surround. Now, it’s the glass shower doors that might do us in. We’ll have to wait a while longer for those.
