Before I go upstairs, I stop and think. Do I really want to go upstairs? Do I need to go upstairs? What’s upstairs that isn’t downstairs? These are important questions to ponder.

A big giant litter box is downstairs. The fountain and a water bowl are downstairs. My baby sister Viola is almost always downstairs. But my food bowl is upstairs and also my other sisters Tessa and Pia, probably in the same room but certainly not close together. If they were together, I’d hear that because of all the growling and hissing. Those girls are baffling.

The cat tower is upstairs. A good window to look out is upstairs with a cat bed to lounge in while looking out. There’s another water bowl, three litter boxes, two hammicks, and a lidded box with a big hole on one side that no one claims is theirs, yet Tessa likes to sleep on top of it but only when Pia crams herself inside. Hmm, I might have just stumbled on the reason for all that growling and hissing.

Perhaps the most important thing that isn’t upstairs is my favorite thick, fleecy, blanket. It’s my favorite fort-making blanket. Shouldn’t I have a blanket upstairs as well? Is that wisp of a blanket, if you could call that tiny square felt thing a blanket, really a blanket? Maybe a mouse could make a blanket fort out of that, but not me.

Okay, food or fort? Food or fort? Lemme think about this for a while longer.
