We’ve been worried about Olivia. She had that “I’m not eating” scare three months ago and our favorite vets did a thorough check up on her. They didn’t find anything wrong. In fact, she had very good numbers in every category. With that said, we did chose not to have an ultrasound and deeper testing done beyond that due to costs.

She’s eleven years old and seems very tired. She will tell you she could stand to eat five times a day if we were here 24/7 to feed her. Nothing can change our work schedules. She’s fed canned food twice a day and gets a handful of her favorite kibble twice a day as well. And she’ll beg for whatever we happen to be eating ourselves. We generally don’t share people food with our cats but have been known to share cheese if and when we happen to have any. Over the past few days we’ve been giving her more canned food and Mom bought kitten kibble with hopes that will put a bit more weight on her (on Olivia, not Mom who doesn’t need more weight).

Lately, she’s been snuggling into pillows and with brother Quint at night. That’s not too unusual and given it’s cooler here now, not too unexpected. We’re happy for the good amount of winter sun puddles we’re getting for her to bask in this week. We were hoping the daily extra food would perk her back up, and it does briefly, until her shaky legs return and she can no longer stand.

If love could keep pets around forever, we’d be earlobe deep in kitties. Sadly, love, special food, and sun puddles aren’t enough.

Friday morning, sometime before noon, sweet baby Olivia who is eleven and a half, best sister ever to brother from another mother Quint, our super model house panther, the shadowy watcher and reporter of all occurring shenanigans at Colehaus, lover and whapper of fruit left on countertops, and the last black cat we’ll ever have the honor of being owned by, will take her last nap cradled in Mom’s arms to awaken in the warm Summerlands over the Rainbow Bridge, not alone but with all her angel friends and family who will greet her, at long last, with soft murrs and purrs.

We love you, sweetie girl. Until we meet again, sweet Olivia. Until we meet again.

  7. J says:

My heart is breaking upon reading this very sad and heartbreaking news about Olivia. I had to say goodbye to my own mini house panther a few months back, and the heartache and the loss is felt every day. I know how much you love this sweet girl, and I know that she has known and felt this love from you both over the years, reciprocally. My heart goes out to you at this deeply heartbreaking time. I hold you in my heart, and I will light a candle for Olivia, in the hope and the wish and the prayer that all our collective love for her will light her way to the next realm. Rest gently, dear, precious, beautiful Olivia. Forever loved, and forever in our hearts, but also, she will be forever missed. I’m so terribly, terribly sorry.

  8. mcmcneil1 says:

We are so sorry it is time for you and her fursibs to let sweet Olivia go. We know she will be missed, especially by brofur Quint (extra purrayers to him), but there will be many waiting for her on the Other Side of the Bridge. Run free again Olivia, your legs will be stronger than ever !

  16. Mary C says:

Farewell, sweet girl. Your fellow House Panther Spitty will have already found you, no doubt. He’s handsome and charming, but even on the other side of the Bridge, he’s not too trustworthy, so be careful! Your human and feline family is going to be sad for quite some time, but eventually they’ll find the wonderful memories you gave them and feel all the love and joy. Meanwhile, many many purrs for your mom & dad.

    • Colehaus Cats says:

Dear Mary, thank you so much for your kindness and kind words. Olivia was a big fan of Spitty (as is Tessa), and we like to think Olivia’s met him by now and so many of the angels from the cat blogosphere. Sending hugs to you.

  20. Marsha Gay says:

You are undertaking the long journey through grief. While others may share that grief we all walk it alone. There are no right or wrong paths, no proper way to carry oneself, no set amount of time to complete it. Some steps will come easier than others. There will be rogue waves of grief that you won’t see coming, and knock you back days. But you will come through it. If you get lost let us know. We have been through it before and we might be able to help you find the way out.

    • Colehaus Cats says:

Thank you for your kind words over our loss of Olivia. We are healing, slowly, as we’d expect. Thank you for visiting us.

  31. Carole Schulman says:

OH Olivia and Mommy. I was certain I had been here before and left you my loving thoughts and condolences. But I will do so now. I as do all of us here, know the crushing sadness when our babies fly away from us. It is one of the most bereft feelings we will have, as Pet Parents. You are, as your mom said, in the Summerlands, and happy and peaceful, for always and ever.
