These snuggle bugs spent several days snuggling when the weather turned from 80-plus degrees (F), to 63. We can imagine Quint saying, “Brrr” when he couldn’t burrow under his fleece blanket because Tessa was sprawled across it. Tessa probably said, “Chill, brother” to which Quint replied, “Yes, I am. That’s the problem.”
The only snuggling Viola’s up for is her box on the kitchen island. Be it 50 degrees or 104, you’ll always know where Viola is.
Pia’s feeling much better, though she’s disappointed no ants have come visiting. And none will if we have anything to say about it. Mom’s eyes are just as sharp as Pia’s and she’s only found one ant inside in almost two weeks. Mom did go out to look at the bricks Dad or someone (probably herself) will need to remove before figuring out how to put up a new bird feeding station, and boy, oh boy, there are thousands of ants out there. We’re talking 24 years of pulverized birdseed finely sifted down through the bricks, attracting every birdseed-lovin’ ant from here to the Canadian border.
Mom knows she can’t use insect spray or powder bait those ants in the off chance they find their way inside, and is thinking maybe she’ll try simply hosing them down in hopes of reducing the number long enough to remove the three or four dozen bricks that need to come up. She’s heard that cinnamon is an ant deterrent but it’s never worked for us. Plus, it’s bad for cats and for birds and squirrels. So is vinegar. Mom might try mixing up a spray of lemon juice and water to spray on that ant horde outside but knows these are only deterrents, not eliminators. She needs to think more on this.
