We’re remembering Angel Maxx today. Maxxie Blue Eyes, Maximilian Monkeybars, Little Maxx Blackfeet, Mr. Bubbles. Dumped as a de-clawed kitten in our neighborhood back in 2004, he quickly found a place in our home and in our hearts. And on our arms and hands and fingers. Yes, this hard nipping is what often happens when someone declaws a kitten. They only know how to express themselves through biting.

But we loved him despite his ability to quickly draw blood. We would have loved to say he outgrew that habit, but he didn’t.

He grew from a four pound stray to a fifteen pound lug. He brought the art of napping to a whole new level of excellence.

Maxx, also, regularly stole the TV remote and woe to he who tried to take it back. Rumor had it he loved watching Law & Order, pre-2004 episodes only, and occasionally, the first ten minutes of Ellen.

One “might” not be too far off if they judged Maxx as not the sharpest bulb in the crayon box. Give him a paper bag and he’d take a nap with his head inside.

Not napping in the black top hat, but probably only because he couldn’t figure out how to tip it onto its side. Other hobbies included trying to teach baby Tessa about life (no one teaches Tessa anything), being annoyed with playful baby Quint, and watching ice cube chips melt on the kitchen floor.

Maxx was a sweetheart, a sweetheart with a biting habit, but we loved him regardless. He left us on a bitter cold day in February 2015 of what we now know was kidney disease, but he’ll never leave our hearts. You can read more about Angel Maxx, and all the Colehaus Cat Angels here.

  5. Sending hugs and purrs on this anniversary of Angel Maxx’s passing. What a glorious, handsome kitty! Poor fellow, declawed as a baby… When will that barbarity ever end?

  6. Summer says:

Purrs to you as you remember Maxx today. I wish more people understood the implications of declawing. I’m so glad he had such a good life with you.

  9. What a handsome boy he was. And of course he hogged the remote – that’s what makes do! Plus, just look at that smooshy tummy.

  10. Maxx was a beautiful boy. He knew a wonderful life with you.

  11. Terri says:

I find it ironic that people worry so much about cats scratching that they declaw their cats yet never think about the biting that ensues.

  12. Brian says:

Hugs from all of us. Such a wonderful flashback.

  13. Maxx was a handsome boy. Lovely flashback.

  14. Madi and Mom says:

Memories are the best….each pet leaves us with their particular mark
Dad had a very nice bday. Their BFFs came over for lunch and bday cake
    Hugs madi your bfff

  15. I see 100% handsome boy! Kitty was a vicious biter – and she was declawed in the front too. Funny that when I brought Bear inside after finding him on the street, he weighed four pounds and made it almost to 15 eventually. He’s lost a little weight – especially now that he has a sister to annoy him. Hard to get enough pictures of Angel Maxx, isn’t it?

  16. Maxx was a handsome guy. Purrs to you as you remember him on this anniversary.

  17. He was so incredibly handsome!

  18. Cathy Keisha says:

I still have my claws but I love biting hands, fingers, ankles, any body part. Maxx was certainly a handsome guy.

  19. He wuz a handsome guy.
