Now, here’s something you won’t see every day. Olivia, Viola, and Tessa “sharing” the proximity of a favorite fleece blanket. Who would believe these three usually avoid each other at all costs? Good thing we took a photo! We might have to use it as evidence someday!

We may have had a breakthrough over the weekend with getting Quint to eat his wet canned food. If you recall, he really, really doesn’t like anything other than kibble but has been recommended to eat wet food after his emergency vet stay back in February for holding his poop longer than necessary. BIG THANKS go out to Eastside Cats for suggesting we add a bit of Parmesan cheese to his canned food.

Quint wasn’t taken by that trick at first, but after a week, he seems to have come around. He’s finished his food at each meal for the past five feedings. Let’s cross paws and fingers this continues, okay? THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU, Eastside Cats!

Sunny, March 2018 – © Colehauscats.com

Dear Sunny is beginning to feel and look her age. She’s done remarkably well here being a Colehaus Cat for the past two years, after once being labeled as quite possibly an unadoptable girl. She’s 13 or 14 years old now, still young, but we can only hold back the long-term effects of stage three kidney disease for so long. She lost a pound and a half, down from eight and a half pounds, after her double UTI in January and try as we may, giving her multiple feedings each day and evening, plus kibble snacks and treats, her weight continues to hold steady at just seven pounds, never regaining even a single ounce for all the extra food.

Last evening, we discovered she had difficulty jumping up to her heated bed on her tower, so we brought in a scratcher for her to use as a stepstool. She’s mellowed a bit further in the past month and over the weekend, we saw her defer to Pia for the first time ever.

She’s fine for now, still happy and comfortable, just aging, and we thought you’d like to know.

We LOVE Tanya’s site and used it to educate ourselves to CKD and find what food was best for Sunny and Miss Newton. We still check it about once a month to look for more food choices. Thank you!

  6. except for some health issues this is a great roundup! I don’t think the cheese thing would ever work for Cody (but I am glad it worked for you!) He isn’t attracted to cheese that much…..but who knows!!!??

    • colehauscats says:

Quint is definitely not a cheese lover, or even a cheese liker, but after a week of smelling it, he finally took the plunge and thank goodness he did! Color us very, very surprised, and happy!

  7. Katie Isabella says:

Sunny, I do want to know. I love you as I do all your siblings and your parents too for being the good people they most definitely are. Be well and at peace darling girl.

  8. Terri says:

Glad to hear Quint is chowing down on the canned food. Makes life so much easier! We’er sad to hear Sunny is slowing down. I have a cat that is 16 years old…is hard to watch them deteriorate due to the aches of aging and that blasted kidney disease.

  9. Hisiableue says:

So nice that Quint is eating his wet food.
Sunny looks fine. I hate kidney disease. So difficult to deal with it.
    Douce soirée
    Natacha

  10. Glad to hear that you finally chose to eat your canned food, Quint ! We send you special purrs, Sunny. Purrs

  11. Ellen Pilch says:

I am glad Quint is eating his canned food. I am sorry that Sunny hasn’t gained back her weight. I am adding her to my prayer list. XO

  12. Summer says:

Yay, I’m glad Quint is finally adjusting to canned food. I’m sending some purrs to Sunny – I’m sure she’s feeling a little uncomfortable with her CKD, and other age-related stuff.

  13. Linda Moore says:

Kidney disease is so hard. My Jackson was like Sunny, once he lost the weight we could not put it back on him no matter what and he was always a tiny cat to begin with. We make it 4 years after the vet gave him 3 months tops but still.

  14. Madi and Mom says:

Gorgeous trio and bravo on the news about Quint!!!
Mom will file that info in her hard drive
    Hugs madi your bfff

  15. *doing the happy dance!* Yay, Quint! That cheese smell mimics the kibble smell. I wouldn’t have believed it either, but it worked for us too. C’mon, Quint, make some nice poops for your mama, okay?
“Sunny, yesterday my life was filled with rain
Sunny, you smiled at me and really eased the pain
The dark days are gone, and the bright days are here
My Sunny one shines so sincere
Sunny one so true, I love you”
    Be well, Sunny sweetheart

  16. Yay for Quint! We hope the cheese trick continues to work…though it didn’t work for us at all. 😉 Sending lots of purrs to Sunny. We know all too well how tough it is getting older.

  17. I am glad Quint is eating his wet food now.
I am sorry Sunny lost that weight, but once they lose it as they get older it is almost impossible to get back again. She is a sweet looking girl.

  18. Mary McNeil says:

Thanksfor the update – Purrayers for Sunny and Quint – and all of you,

  19. Mark's Mews says:

Yeah, we know about getting some cats in the same picture. Iza and Ayle dont sit near each other much, but that is Ayla’s fault; Iza doesnt care one way or the other. I know what Quint means about kibble. I would eat that almost all the time but TBT just gives them to us as treats. ~ MARLEY

  20. Just Ducky says:

    Cheese makes everything better.

  21. Rene S says:

Parmesan cheese? Now that’s a great idea! And we so know how difficult it is for senior cats to gain (or maintain) weight. Benny is less than 10 pounds now, and he’s on the all-you-can-eat plan.
