02/17/2021 – Eating the Props

For last Christmas, we used our big collection of holiday decorations very sparingly. Mom didn’t have much time to dig everything out and set things just right, something she used to spend days upon days getting just right. You know, like HGTV holiday decorating on super steroids. The end of the year felt very much in the vein of “less is more” for decorating for her, and Dad didn’t complain.

After packing everything back away on New Year’s day in less than an hour, opposed to a full day or two that it used to take in the past, she left out a plain, gold-sprayed grapevine ball, because she liked it. Someone(s) else liked it, too, apparently.

And after reminding Pia not to eat the grapevine décor prop, Viola promptly nibbled on it and batted it around the room, which in turn prompted Mom to decide she didn’t need to have that thing out after all.

Thanks, girls, for “helping” Mom decide the room needed one less thing sitting around.

Here’s a few more photos of our snow weekend. The snow was pretty, and plentiful. It was the ice that came after that made things scary. Mom couldn’t get to work after all, couldn’t get down the driveway without sliding, and hey, gee, isn’t that the community mailbox* across the street coming up fast in her rearview mirror while sliding? Whoa! Nope, Mom agrees that attempting to drive in ice isn’t what cool kids should be doing.

She did make it in to work yesterday and nearly got stuck in the deep snow/slush in her carpool person’s neighborhood on the way in. Slipping and sliding is fun sometimes, but not yesterday morning!

*No community mailbox was injured during Mom’s attempted excursion down the driveway. She left that for one of the neighbor’s kids to accomplish!

That ball looks way too tempting for kitties, good decision Mom! Drive safely and stay warm everyone.

  2. If a cat can get to it, then it’s fair game, right Pia and Viola?!?
Around here, just setting down a water bottle cap becomes a race to see who gets it first; Da Boyz, or the human!
Deep snow is bad enough, but ice…yikes!

  3. Brian says:

Playtime can happen any old time! That’s too much snow for us!!!

  4. The grapevine ball looks like a lot of fun. Snow is fun to look at but not to drive in. Shoveling is not too much fun either! Maybe it is soon going to be gone.

  5. We wouldn’t be able to keep our paws off that!

  6. Rene S says:

Yikes, ice sure is scary stuff! We’re glad your mom stayed safe. And it made us giggle that you “stole” the prop as a cat toy.

  7. Bernadette says:

The mistake is to pay attention to the ball and tell it that it’s pretty. Kitties know it’s important and treat it like they treat all important things! And they’re awfully cute about it too.

  8. Memories of Eric and Flynn says:

Pia, you look like a kitten in the first photo, you gorgeous ginger floof ball!

  9. 15andmeowing says:

Sorry your mom had to go out in that weather. That does look like a fun toy.

  10. Summer says:

I dunno, that looked like a cattoy to me! I guess the community mailbox did not go unscathed… at least it wasn’t your fault!

  11. What a wonderful cat toy! Us cats like to play with Cinnamon’s bigger balls sometime, but a grapevine ball would be even better! We are on your side Pia and Viola! You guys are AWESOME! Have a marvellously Happy Day!

  12. meowmeowmans says:

That grapevine ball is a natural cat toy and snack, right Pia and Viola? MOL!

That ice is scary stuff. We are glad Mom was able to get to work and back home safely. Eventually.

    XO
