Mom says we have a full house now. I guess I agree with her. Sure, sometimes it gets a little busy around the food bowls and someone always seems to be horning in now on my private kitchen water faucet. But for all my sisters and brothers, are they cute? Maybe a little. But smart? Heck no. Why, look at this! An entire bed to myself every day. Anyone with half a mind ought to be in here lounging and stretching and napping, jostling for space. But nope! They’re out somewhere else, probably getting into trouble while I’m doing nothing of the kind and being a good boy. Just me and myself and this tired purple straw. It’s probably my little sister Pia’s straw. Whatevs, I’m just here, lounging and stretching and napping, all by my lonesome.

Just me and no one else…

Alone.

All right, where is everyone?

Smitten.

Well, as if a surprise…we now have a new addition to the Colehaus Cat Clan!

Two weeks ago, we brought home a wonderfully sweet kitty from West Columbia Gorge Humane Society as a Foster-to-Adopt Home for the Holidays trial.

The Smitten Dad says: “Two weeks ago we had a simple hope that Ruby (formerly known as Pearl) would move from her sanctuary under our tall bed and we’d find her snuggling with us overnight. She delivered that and more by spending much of Christmas Eve snuggled between us and the rest of the week exploring: First from the bed to the window sill and then between rooms and floors. Yesterday, she was out of our room (known to the kitties as “The Servants Quarters”) wandering around and sitting on various window sills watching people and birds for hours.

She’s chosen a name change on her own, so as of last week, before the very end of the year, we officially adopted Ruby to round out our family. She’s made substantial strides to join the Colehaus Cats crew family and we couldn’t be more thrilled.

She enjoys the nightly brushing routine and her coat has grown softer and more beautiful with each evening. She likes listening to us talk and enjoys watching TV with us. She’s also been socializing with the rest of the family. After an initial meeting across an open bedroom doorway with hisses exchanged and much aloofness, Christmas day saw Pearl venture out of the room to explore and meet half of the rest of the crew before a very enthusiastic Quint prompted a return to the sanctity of the bedroom. Her excursions out have grown more frequent and the hisses have quieted as she progressively explores the house.

Just the other day, we experienced the added bonus of having her crawl into our laps to sit and clean herself. Mom was beside herself with glee!

We’re so happy to see her spending more of her time alert and purring and looking comfortable in her surroundings. Welcome, Ruby Roo Sweetfeets. Welcome home.”
