09/01/2015 – Ruby Tuesday
There was this soft noise outside the window, like something I had heard long ago. I had to investigate what it was and can you imagine my surprise at finding it was raining outside? It’s been so long since the rain visited us! Rain, please stay with us for a while. It’s so much easier to watch you from inside!
08/31/2015 – Mamacat Monday
Today is Zuzu’s two year anniversary as a Colehaus Cat! Let’s take a bit of a walk down memory lane.
To refresh everyone’s memory, Zuzu came to us as Erinn, an emergency foster need kitty from our friends at West Columbia Gorge Humane Society. We received a phone call about an orange girl that was pregnant and dangling on the edge of the birthing precipice – it could happen at any moment and the need was dire for a foster home for her. Oh yes, and in the call someone uttered, “…and did we mention she’s a bobtail?”
Excuse me? An orange bobtail girl?
Where do we sign?
So we did some serious disinfecting and picked up some hardware to allow her to be isolated while she adjusts to the household. And here was Zuzu’s first photo (please click to enbiggen):
Based on the urgency of the fostering request, we wondered whether she would give birth in these first few days, before ever setting foot outside of her “isolation ward.” As it turned out, she was much further from giving birth than everyone thought. This provided time for us to get her on a stable diet of good food and discover she preferred the name Zuzu to Erinn before the big day finally came six weeks later. Here she is on what proved to be the day we had long anticipated:
Within 24 hours of that photo, Zuzu was a mama (again – it was clear that she had gone through this before and we were fortunate for her experience). It was a wonderful experience, chronicling and sharing the event with our Internet friends. Erinn Zuzu and her Niblets were born to be Internet celebrities.
The kittens grew up as they all do, too fast so much of the time. Ultimately though, we were able to adopt Zuzu and her daughter Viola, the tiniest Niblet. There was something very satisfying about being able to keep two of the family together and continue to chronicle their lives here as part of the Colehaus Cats clan.
So Happy Anniversary Zuzu. We are very happy you and your daughter are part of our family here at Colehaus Cats. We raise a tuna snack toast to many years to come.
