It’s been really cold outside here for the past week. In the early mornings, we’ve had some fog and everything outside is white with frost – rooftops, trees, cars, roadways, and even a little on the window I watch birds from. So frosty, so pretty.
And that got me thinking about painting with frost. White frost? Silver frost? Hmmm…

Mom said frost paints itself. I’m not sure I believe her but I think I can paint frost too and soon, there I was, in my studio, thinking about how to paint frost. White on pale green trees against a blue sky with a bit of gray northwest fog, oh, and a touch of pearlescent blue that shines like silver frost when the light hits it just right. Yes, that will work. I can picture it in my head right now!

And then, there I was, irritated with mom when she came in with her durn camera, waiting for me to start painting frost. So I painted that frost all right but I did it fast, so quick, mom couldn’t help hold my art paper flat and take pictures at the same time. And I couldn’t help but smile just a little when she put that camera down.

I like my result though, and I probably won’t paint fast like that again anytime soon. Probably. When I paint fast, I’m not gentle or soft with my dabbing like mom prefers me to be. But you know? Sometimes, an artist just needs to let it all out. And so, that’s what I did. I hope you like it!

But I knew that wasn’t fair for her, or for you who want to see me paint, so just a little while later, when I was working on something else (I can’t say what because it’s a secret), I took my time painting and tried not to be annoyed while mom took photos.

I don’t know why the camera bothers me so much while I’m painting. It just does. I can’t explain it. Nor can I explain why I like mom’s camera so much when I’m NOT painting, but I do! I hope you won’t hold that against me.
Anyhoo, my frost paintings are called “Touch of Frost” and my mom has them up and ready for sale at my Art Shop. And hey! The holidays are coming, I hear, and what luck that I’ve got these and some of my earlier works ready to find their forever homes, you know, if you’re looking for a little something for gift giving, either for someone special or maybe even for yourself. I’m not judging. You deserve something special too!
Mom says all proceeds from all paintings sold today through January will go toward the purchase of a sturdy feralvilla feral shelter and a feeding station. Like I mentioned, it’s been frosty cold out there already and we want to help keep our outdoor visitors’ toesies warm. Maybe you can help?
