12/11/2015 – Visitor Updates

Whew! Thank you all for asking about one of our visitors, Mustacheo. Thanks to you and one very special friend, we’ve placed orders for two feralvilla.com shelters and are nearly ready to purchase a real feeding station, one that won’t blow away. Soon, we’ll feel better knowing we’re able to provide warm, dry places for him or Cocoa or who ever wanders through. That wouldn’t be possible without you. Thank you!

Last Friday, we mentioned something about saying goodbye to our renter neighbors and their kitties who visited us over the past two years only to find out one of the visitors, Mustacheo, didn’t belong to them at all!

So, the big hunt for Mustacheo’s real home began. But first, carpet cleaners and pressure washers descended last weekend upon the now-empty renter house next door and filled the neighborhood with near-ear piercing noise. That was enough to scare everyone away, it seemed. Even Mustacheo who is half-deaf. We didn’t see him for days.

Then, we went through three days of record setting rainfall. Rain literally poured nonstop from the skies for three solid days. We hadn’t experienced anything like that around here for ten years. Thank you, Mother Nature! Boy, did we ever need that rain after our unusual drought last summer. And we’re not complaining mind you, but we’ve got a cat to find!

Finally, Wednesday afternoon, the rain stopped long enough for us to canvas the neighborhood looking for either Mustacheo or Mustacheo’s home. During that walk, we discovered things about three of our visitors:

Cocoa - © Colehauscats.com

1) Cocoa hangs out near a dog igloo shelter that sits out in a side yard of a home up in one of the nearby cul-de-sacs. Someone seems to care for some animal(s) up there though the igloo looked pretty well beat up and the bedding inside was soaked. No one answered the door so we couldn’t ask about Mustacheo, or Cocoa for that matter, but we’re happy someone has a shelter of some kind. And Cocoa didn’t run off when we approached either. Not friendly, but not scared either. Mom’s been making great progress with Cocoa when putting out food at dawn each morning. Just between you and us, we think Cocoa might actually like mom. *shhh… our secret!*

2) Momo is back to living inside “exclusively.” Or so said a neighbor. This, after Momo had been injured last spring (by Tough Boy, we think), and then, after his humans swore he would become an indoor-only cat… except then, they let him back out just three weeks later to go back to being an outside-only cat. They couldn’t handle his constant whining to go out. We miss you, Momo, but inside is better. Seriously.

3) And finally, Mustacheo has been hanging out in a lady’s garage in the other cul-de-sac through all the renter’s moving noise, the rental house cleanup noise, and the big rain storm! He’s fine and she doesn’t mind him there. She keeps her overhead garage door raised a few inches overnight and he has access to warm, dry bedding, canned food, and fresh water. No, she said she didn’t know who he belonged to and no again, she wasn’t interested in adopting him but she likes him. As long as he is safe and being cared for, is what we care about. Sounds like when a stretch of dry weather returns for us, we’ll have Mustacheo visits once more.

Of course, this means we still don’t know who he belongs to but we’ll keep looking. In the meantime, we know where he’s at and he seems comfortable.

Thank you for asking about him! That’s what we love about this cat blog community. So many honest-to-goodness caring people. Thank you.

12/09/2015 – Secret Paws Package Sent

Repost from the awesome Secret Paws 2015 blog, hosted by Truffle and Brulee. Excitement is starting to build over there. Who will be your Secret Paw this year?

Mom and dad had the best time gathering things for our Secret Paw special friends. A little bit here, a little bit there, a trip over there, a trio of things delivered here. We were very excited to fawn over the stash of things all carefully selected. All except Viola who kept trying to get mom to pay attention to the boxes. “You’re going to need this one, mom!” she insisted. Mom waved her hand and said she had that covered.

“If you haven’t figured out yet that mom doesn’t listen sometimes, baby sister, you really ought to step it up and soon,” Miss Newton said.

And then, after much ooo-ing and aww-ing and lots of crinkly tissue paper and a bit of tape later (and without ribbon or photos because we were, um, a bit obnoxious about helping!), our mom and dad took all the pretty packaged things to a shipping store who advertised they would handle the rest.

“And they took my suggestion and used my box, right? I picked it out special from all the other boxes and bags.”

“No, they took the things in a bag. I don’t think our special Secret Paw friends want your smells all over their Christmas box.”

“But… but they said they needed a box and I found the best box ever! They have to use my box. I insist!”

* sigh * “She doesn’t get it. Somebody explain it to her, please.”

In the meantime, mom and dad realized they just might have wanted to supply their own box when standing at the counter at the crowded shipping store whose employees didn’t quite understand how to box up all the crinkly tissue-wrapped things in a pretty way how mom wanted it to look.

And then, mom seemed to remember something about Viola mentioning a box. Dad is calling it a “learning experience.” Our package has been sent. We’re hoping our special friends don’t mind the big box (a big box is a toy, right?) partially-filled with packing air pouches (those probably shouldn’t be toys) and minus the “Eau de Viola” fragrance.

My dad says some changes will be coming soon to my room but nothing that should disrupt me “too much.”

Too much?

Dear man, please define this term, “too much.”
