08/20/2018 – ManCat Monday with Quint, the Artist

Remember back in June when Quint took his annual Spring walk around his garden? It’s okay. We hardly remembered it, either. He took his walk, then some life stuff happened, Mom didn’t set up Quint’s studio, more life stuff happened, Mom forgot again and suddenly EVERYTHING HAPPENED SEEMINGLY AT ONCE.

FINALLY, in an effort to temporarily forget all current and future woes, Mom set up Quint’s studio . . . and he looked at the art paper and his paint dish and his support toys and then back up at Mom as if to say, “You want me to do what???”

Great. Mom blamed herself for taking too long to get Quint back in his studio and now, the boy has lost his talent. That’s where we’d been sitting until one day two weeks ago when we heard him scratching at the bathroom mirror, just as he always did when he wanted something to paint.

Quickly, we set up his studio, sometimes known as our master bathroom, grabbed his support toys, pulled out some work he dabbled with very early this year, mixed up some paint and let him do his thing.

In no time, he was done. Which is another way of saying he took his ball (one of his support toys) and went home, or to the cat room where, and this is where things get really weird, multiple cats are actually spending time in on a regular basis now! Photos to come!

And so we wouldn’t think it was a fluke, he expressed he wished to paint again the next day. Presenting Quint’s Wildflowers 2018:

We’re happy to say both Beach Blooms and Wildflowers will be available at his Art Shop Wednesday morning. And he’s already working on something for fall; easy to understand since our drought weather is already starting to affect the colors of leaves on trees around here.

So, there you have it. Looks like we *might* be back on the painting bandwagon. As always, we let him decide when he’s ready. We wouldn’t have it any other way, never have, never will.

How’d we do, Quint? Did we pretty much capture everything here?

::Purrrrrrrrrrrrrrr::

Okay, we’ll take that as a yes. Quint art fans, thank you for your patience!

08/17/2018 – Olivia’s take on Black Cat Appreciation Day and a Thank You

We thank every one of you who visited, who commented, who hugged your kitties and loved ones Wednesday after we posted the passing of our Ruby. Your thoughts and words have always, and will always mean the world to us.

We’ll forever miss Ruby, especially each night at bedtime when she was always there, impatient to snuggle and call the day to an end. Her beloved tower, such a big, tall thing for the only cat in our room to use it, now cleaned and vacuumed of fur, looked so lost and empty. Overnight, we left our bedroom door open for the first time since December 2012 when we brought foster Ruby home before Christmas, and this morning, we woke to find Viola on the top perch and Quint in Ruby’s cubby hole, both sleeping deep and peacefully. It’s painful to move on, but to know her tower will be loved by her brother and baby sister is a sweet, bittersweet feeling that will slowly, someday, fill the hole in our hearts.

And so will your good thoughts and love. Thank you.

You know, this isn’t a bad photo of you, Olivia.

I’m blurry.

Well, yeah, there is that. But Mom got your eyes mostly in focus this time. It is Black Cat Appreciation Day and we appreciate you, our house panther, our only house panther.

Still blurry.

It’s hard to photograph house panthers, Olivia. Would you rather be something else today?

*thinking* . . . I . . . think, today, I’ll be . . . aloof.

08/15/2018 – To Run Free

Ruby, August 2018 © Colehauscats.com

Ruby, August 2018 © Colehauscats.com

It is with the deepest sorrow that we announce sweet, petite Ruby has departed to the safe, warm Summerlands that lay beyond the Rainbow Bridge.

Perhaps depressed from losing friend and fellow senior girl Sunny exactly one month ago, Ruby began losing weight in early August and stopped eating last week. Appetite stimulator, syringe feeding and outright begging did nothing to help and she grew increasingly thin and lethargic.

On Monday, August 13th, 2018, at approximately 12:40 in the afternoon, with Mom sitting close, giving brushies and whispering love in her ears, Ruby was helped across the Rainbow Bridge to those sunny Summerlands beyond by a favorite veterinarian. Ruby is free at last to roam beyond walls and rooms, to run and scamper and nap in the sunshine she so loved.

Please read her complete story at our Never Forgotten Colehaus Cats page and give each of your kitties a big hug. Our time with them is so short. Thank you for letting us love you, Ruby Roo. Thank you for having patience with us and for helping us become better cat parents. Mom promises she will now cherish every scar on her hands from every bite those first three years, and Dad already misses you stealing his warm spot in bed. Run free, sweetheart. We love you and will never forget you. Until we meet again . . .
