07/16/2021 – The Chair Routine

Once upon a time, we had a single somewhat-padded computer desk chair, and an orange fluffy cat who believed it was bought specifically for her. It’s not a fancy chair by any means; cost us about fifty bucks a few years ago. Dad mostly uses this chair because, for the last almost year and a half and until tomorrow, he’s been working his near-minimum wage job from home using a work computer.

We also have a metal folding chair that Mom uses with our home computer, which, because of her heavy work schedule, is only on weekends and that’s when Dad is working. Neither Pia or Dad likes the folding chair and neither will sit on it. Mom doesn’t mind using the hard folding chair when she needs to use the home computer but from time-to-time, Mom thinks maybe some padding back there would feel nice. But that always comes with a price.

This fluffy orange cat, oh, let’s call her . . . Pia, and as we’ve already mentioned, believes this somewhat padded computer chair is hers. Pia doesn’t bother Dad when he’s using the computer chair. Maybe it’s because Dad takes up the entire chair. Maybe it’s because she senses Dad is way too busy working to put up with Pia’s demands that she’s the one who gets to use the computer chair.

Mom, on the other hand, doesn’t take up the entire computer chair on the occasions she gets to use it, and well, frankly, this is a very, very cute fluffy cat. But not wanting to spoil anyone, Mom stays steadfast in using the computer chair and ignoring that sweet gingery face, even through all the demands.

Which makes Pia unhappy, but not undetermined.

Really now, if you were using the computer and the computer chair and saw this staring face, nonstop for half an hour, this insistent, begging, fluffy face emitting occasional soft peeps, and you knew you had more than enough room to share, wouldn’t you let her have the chair?

Okay, good enough! That’s exactly what Mom said and so, rest assure that every single blog post that has been created here for the last few years has had the shared chair approval of one large, fluffy, orange cat named Pia.

07/14/2021 Denial is not a Cat word

Quint has questions © Colehauscats.com

Mom, what are you doing in there?
Why are you in there?
Why aren’t any cats in there?
What if you needed a cat in there?
Shouldn’t I be in there with you?
Aren’t my treats in there?
Wouldn’t you rather see what’s going on out here?
Isn’t keeping a cat out of there illegal?
You wouldn’t want me to scratch this wood door, would you?
You didn’t just say no, did you?

We have one bedroom in our house that has wall-to-wall carpet and it is the one room no cat has ever been in for longer than a minute or two because, well, carpet! Over the years we’ve used this room for an office (ended that because the cats wouldn’t stop scratching at the door), a workout gym (ended that for the most part because the cats wouldn’t stop scratching at the door), and a storage room because who doesn’t have unused desks and chairs and treadmills that need to be stored somewhere?

Woe to the Mom who decides to go into that room to read for a minute or two, alone!

Hmm, smells like it’s going to be another hot day. There’s only one good thing this cat does on hot days.

The very day after we found a small kitten under the metal floor grates of the assembly warehouse Mom works at, another kitten was found! This soft gray puff was much more active than the first (we posted about that one last week), and nearly twice the size. This little boy went to the same home as the first found kitten where they will be fostered together until old and strong enough to find real forever homes.

The next day, we looked and searched and no more kittens were found, however, we did hear that on the other side of the 2 1/2 football fields-sized warehouse, two weeks ago, two kittens who didn’t have their eyes open yet were found tottering about from under a wood pallet and were taken to a local humane society. A week later, another kitten was found in the same area who looked like his eyes had just opened. That one was instantly adopted by a woman who works nearby in the distribution center.

We’re not expecting to find any more kittens going forward but everyone working there vows to keep their ears open for tiny mews under their feet!
