When the cleaning starts, when the furniture and rugs are moved, when the vacuum comes out, Pia camps out in her most favorite hiding spot with all her favorite things – her nip puff pillow from her boyfriend Dexter and her favorite scratching cardboard box. Added bonus: the space is perfectly Pia-sized. Shh, don’t tell her that Mom always knows where to find her!

Thank you so very much, you wonderful ones, who sent us e-cards and snail mail cards for the holidays! It’s our tradition to open each one on Christmas morning and that’s always a delight. Thank you for thinking of and remembering us!

After much delay (Mom’s job – Okay, we believe that) (uncooperative cats – Say it isn’t so!), we’ve finally created our 2021 Christmas e-cards. Again, keep in mind no one really wanted to participate this year (Pia, we’re looking at you), but Mom was determined to pull it off at least a day or two before Christmas day. Presenting, the 2021 Colehaus Cats Christmas e-cards featuring an unamused Olivia and a losing-patience-quickly Tessa:

12/20/2021 – Monday Mysteries

Mysterious things are afoot around here lately. I’m not afraid to report them or question some decisions my Mom and Dad have made. Like on yesterday. Yesterday was Sunday and that usually means Mom gets up in the middle of the night to assure her work sleep schedule isn’t “out of whack,” whatever that means.

But she didn’t. She slept and slept and slept some more, even after when she got up briefly with Dad to look at the puffy white snow stuff that fell overnight by everyone’s surprise, including the local weather people who we all question anyway. My Mom didn’t go outside, she didn’t pull on shoes and stand out in the snow in her pajamas like she usually does. She just looked out the window for a while and went back to bed. Hmm.

Then, yesterday, Mom and Dad celebrated Christmas because my Dad has to work all this week including Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Mom says I can celebrate real Christmas with her since she’ll be home all week but I like it better when my Dad is home, too. Not this year, my Mom said. This year her and Dad’s lives has switched and she’s home for the holidays and Dad has to work. What kind of world has this become? I have a weird Dad.

Then, some people came to the door and took a BIG box Mom had pulled out the closet that had something called a Christmas tree in it. I’ve never seen a Christmas tree and my Mom says that’s perfectly fine with her because Christmas trees and cats don’t get along. And then she looked at my sister Tessa who squinted her eyes at Mom and looked pretty smug if you ask me. I’m not sure but I think that meant something only Tessa and Mom know about. I have a weird sister.

And later still, while I was still hiding from the visitors relaxing in a bedroom, Mom traipsed in with paint brush and bucket in hand and announced I could stay to watch her paint the walls. Really, Mom? You’re off for the holiday week and you’re going to spend it, not resting, not sleeping, not petting and brushing me, but painting walls? I have a weird Mom.

In a nutshell, it’s a weird, mysterious holiday season this year. You’re not going to convinced me otherwise.

12/17/2021 – Finally Friday

This isn’t what it looks like. I know, you’re thinking Mom got a photo of me in an embarrassing position but then, you’d be wrong. Actually, what I’m doing is trying to block my sight from Mom super-cleaning under the big bed where I sleep. It took me a L-O-N-G time to get fur and dust bunnies just right under there, where my favoritest hammick and toys reside, where all my extra whiskers and nail sheathes stay close at paw, and where I can keep an eye on anyone who comes and goes.

Now, Mom’s vacuuming and mopping every square inch. She even sorted, consolidated, and washed, WASHED as in WASHED WITH WATER, all our toys!

I think she threw out my YeowWW nanner! Sure, I had chewed a hole or three in it a long time ago and that pretty much emptied it of that great YeowWW nip and all of that just happened to be all over the floor. But it was on the floor WHERE I WANTED IT TO BE and now it’s vacuumed up! Mom, why? WHY?

Next, she’s threatening promising to wash the walls and rearrange all the other cat things like beds and towers and bowls. Boy, some cats are surely not going to be happy with that! Poor things!

Oh, I can’t watch anymore. Besides that, it’s past my naptime.
