08/30/2023 – Goodbye August

Goodbye August. We won’t miss you. You were HOT, HOT, HOT! And dry, terribly dry. We know September won’t be much better because that’s just how Septembers are anymore but really, see you later, August. Your work here is done!

Our work is done regarding thoughts on bringing Murray into our fold; for two reasons. Last week, after Mom posted flyers around the neighborhood, we finally got a call from Murray’s pawrents. We are absolutely convinced Murray is theirs. And, as it turns out, Murray isn’t a girl, but a very, very neutered boy named . . . well, we’ll say . . . Mr. G, for privacy reasons.

Mr. G lives with two other brothers, all of whom are allowed to hang out outdoors. Only Mr. G takes it further by wandering. His brothers are homebodies. They have 24/7 access to indoors, including heated beds and unlimited food. Which might explain why Mr. G never looked thin or haggard. In fact, Mr. G is downright, dare we say . . . chunky.

While we did seriously entertain adopting him and went so far as to get him checked for a microchip (he does not have one), we are at our absolute limit for kitties here at Colehaus. Between Mr. Colehaus’ increased MS deterioration and Mom needing to work more and more hours to keep what we have, we’ve already decided the current Colehaus Cats will be the last Colehaus Cats.

It was only fair that we talked over this reasoning with Mr. G, the cat formerly known as Murray. And he had some words of his own to add; mostly insistence that we continue to visit him once or twice a day for brushies and chicken catnip treats (Note to self: set up another Amazon order for these), and that we keep calling him handsome. We both were a bit saddened and unhappy about that turn of events, but wildly happy he has a real home with a real family who loves him.

And then, Mr. G stomped right over across the yard, pounced on a bird, and killed it. C’mon, now! No! No! NO! Mr. G, we went over these rules from the start. NO BIRDS! You know better!

And because there was nothing we could do, we gave him a final NO! and returned inside without giving him a final petting *sigh*

08/28/2023 – Checking Up with Olivia

Olivia continues to improve from her bout of what our vet thinks may have been pancreatitis back in July. She lost about a pound and a half and all desire to do much of anything. She’s always been a thin little girl so a pound and a half is still really noticeable. Slowly, she’s gaining weight. Very, very slowly.

For a few weeks, before work at oh-dark-thirty, Mom would lift Olivia up onto the kitchen counter and try to get her to eat a couple bites of kibble. Olivia wasn’t eating her wet food at all at the time, and for a few mornings here and there, she ate Mom’s offered kibble. And then, she’d stop eating again.

Dad took over by getting down on the floor to feed her and it worked! Dad’s always been the go-to guy when it comes to getting kitties and kittens to eat, and he’s still got it. It wasn’t long before Olivia was eating on her own again, including her wet food.

Olivia’s been eating on her own again for a few weeks now. She jumps up and down on the counter like she used to do and has spend several nights in bed snuggling with Quint recently. It’s good to see them together and her acting normal again. Thank YOU for all your good thoughts and purrs when she was feeling terrible. They worked!
