The love affair with Dad’s downstairs bed continues. Quint’s just as likely to stay on top of the waterproof covers as to burrow beneath, room temperature depending. He and Tessa are snuggling a lot more than ever. Is that because they’re both aging? Both are now 13 years old. Both have been fairly independent from one another. Or is it the addition of that bed?

The bigger surprise was Viola sleeping closer, ever so closer, to Tessa (photo taken before Viola’s dental surgery). Oddly, we never see Viola napping near Quint. Quint’s always been the more accommodating cat. You’d think Viola and he would be nap buddies by now. Maybe someday? Oh, and that kitchen Island box Viola was so enamored with all summer long? Completely forgotten. Technically, that box is still around, now under the boo-fay and has been utterly ignored for about a month.

We think this behavior will continue through the rest of fall, through winter and probably well into spring. Maybe beyond. Give us a couple of months before we start officially referring to the cats as lumps. Tuxie Lump 1, Orange Boy Lump 2 and the tail-less Lump 3. Might be a really boring year around here. “Oh gee, look. There are the Lumps, still. No change from yesterday. No change from last week.”

Sadly, Viola has to wear her cone for another day or two after her dental surgery over a week ago. It’s a soft fabric cone with a plastic insert and it makes it hard for her to get into her food bowl. She figured it out after a few hours, before Tessa could hone in and push her out of her way (Tessa has her own food bowl, btw). After a few days, the entire rim of the cone was caked in dried canned wet food and was extremely hard to clean off. Ugh! Poor Viola smelled like a walking cat food can. Finally, Mom took the cone off, handwashed it and quickly dried it with a blow dryer before Viola could scratch open her stitches. Oh, how she wants to scratch her jaw. That means she’s healing!

How fun that Dad Cole’s bed is such a popular place for the kitties. Those are some adorable Lumps!
