Who is this?

It’s possible this is one of the many, many black and white visitors we’ve had this year, or not. Either way, look at those eyes. Mom wanted to pick it up and give it kisses. It was meowing loudly on the other side of the fence and definitely knew all about the chicken catnip treats we leave in the feeding stations. So Mom put a couple of pinches out. But this kitty wasn’t about to get close to anyone and waited for Mom to get back inside. Looks like this is a case of “give me the treats and no one will get hurt.”

Several times each day, a female hummingbird visits the bright red Cardinal flower just outside the kitchen window. Whenever Mom’s home, she tries to get a good photo of it. This is the best she can do.

Viola’s terribly impressed with the itty bitty bird and Mom’s camera skills, as you can clearly see.

We have 3 mama raccoons visiting us each morning and between them, 4 babies. Here’s the unnamed mama with her singleton baby. The other two mamas who visit regularly are Bea and Skinny Tail, who share mama duties with their 3 babies.

A while later, and while the singleton baby wandered around the backyard snarfing up dropped birdseed, mama raccoon took a long drink from the fountain and washed her paws, like all civilized ladylike raccoons do. We’re sure she’ll pass these important life skills on to her baby.

Lastly, we saw Joe the Frog just 2 weeks ago, before the hot temperature set in for over a week. We haven’t seen him in 2-3 years and you know, he’s really taking care of himself. A Northern Red Legged frog, he looked exactly the same as the last time he came around. Mom raced inside to grab the camera but when she returned, all she got was a photo of a pile of leaves. Joe had hopped off into the deep shade of the azaleas, probably to sit and beat himself up for returned home too soon from summer vacationing in Cortina d’Ampezzo near the Swiss Alps. Should have listened to all your jet setting frog friends, Joe. Maybe next year?
