12/02/2016 – Friday with Sunny

QUICK UPDATE ON SUNNY’S DENTAL CLEANING: Thank you for all your purrs and good thoughts! Sunny came through her first ever dental cleaning with flying colors! No extractions, no cracked teeth, no bleeding gums or sores. She’s home and on pain meds for the next couple of days. They also drained and removed a fluid cyst and underlying mass on her back, so she’s shaved there and has a row of stitches. We’ll know more about the mass sometime next week.

More proof of how well Sunny has fit into our family. She has two personal fountains to drink from and access to two big water bowls elsewhere in the house and yet, she likes the kitchen faucet the best.

We’ll add the fact the kitchen faucet DOES NOT have a drip that might attract cats to it (clearly, someone who shall remain nameless turned a trickle on here), AND we recently added yet a third water bowl behind the faucet on the counter in a specific attempt to keep cats away from the faucet.

The progress so far?

Cats drinking from water bowl instead of faucet – 1.
Cats still attempting to drink from the faucet – 8.
Number of times per day Mom yells at cats on the counter – Countless.
Number of cats who think Mom is being irrational about not being on the counter – C’mon, really? You needed to know this??

Purrs would be greatly appreciated today for Sunny as she undergoes her first ever dental cleaning (remember, she was twelve years old when we adopted her in September). Her original dental appointment was cancelled in October due to her two UTIs, but those have since cleared up and remain at bay.

We expect there might be some extractions but Sunny’s surprised us before with her strength and ability to survive tough times. If her dental work doesn’t take too long, our favorite vet might have time to address the growing fluid-filled cyst on Sunny’s back as well. Otherwise, that will have to wait for another time.

Either way, we’re happy to finally be able to get her teeth looked at. Thank you for your help with Sunny’s vet fund that helped make this possible!

Have a good weekend!

  1. A tap is always best! My favourite watering hole is the granite trough in the garden which collects rain water. If I am shut indoors, which I have been during this bitterly cold snap we are having, then the tap in the bath is the place for me. Mum leaves it very slowly trickling for me. With all the rain we get, we don’t have to worry about the very small amount of water wastage.

  2. Something tells me, that Sunny is going to be even MORE loving after her dental! And I didn’t know she was polydactyl…that last photo shows her big front foot. And what’s a little counter surfing to get to the water faucet amongst friends? Ain’t no big thang; I would LOVE to see Angel and Chuck trying to drink from any water receptacle in the house. I add almost a full can of filtered water to each meal, just to make sure they get some!

  3. Sunny’s a gorgeous (and SMART girl). We hope the dental goes well. Bear’s had several in his life … and had extractions each time (I’ve brushed his teeth every day for most of his life … and still … genetics!)

  4. Sending purrs and prayers that all goes well today!!!! So happy she is doing so well!!! Loved those photos!

  5. Water bowls are so boring, that is why we like running water.

  6. Paws crossed that Sunny comes through her dental with no complications!

  7. Sending good thoughts that everything goes good today.

  8. Purrs to you sweet Sunny, we hope the dental is no big deal.

  9. We sure hope her dental is easy and uneventful. She’s such a pretty girl.

  10. Dear Sunny, you’ll get this dental appointment thing down pat. Purrs, sweetie.

  12. Aaaaaaaaaaaaw Sunny be so adorable. As fur da faucet, we’d use it too ifin mommy would turn da thing on. But alas, after sis Lexi went to heaven, mommy said there’s purrlenty of places and fountains fur us to use. ‘Specially since she couldn’t hardly brush her teffies fur da kitty heads in da sink. MOL We’re sendin’ lots of hugs and purrayers. And we’re sure you’ll luv da items on our Christmas guide. See ya’ Sunday.

    Luv ya’

  13. How neat Sunny fits right in. Cyndi likes to go into the bathroom and try to drink from the bathtub faucet, most likely because when the weather is freezing, Jan sets the faucet to drip.

  14. Katie Isabella

  18. Lots of us around here like the faucets that drip. We sure hope that all goes well well with Sunny’s dental tomorrow. She probably will be an even nicer cat. Sending purrs.

  19. What I really want to know is how many cats drink from the toilet?? Hope it went well for Sammy!!

  20. That’s one thing we don’t do around here…drink from the faucet. Though we have been known to lick the sink. We saw on FB that Sunny’s dental went really well. Whoohoo!

  21. Purring for sweet Sunny! Mudpie is allowed on the counter…and she drinks water from my mug…

  22. Good wishes for Sunny at the vet’s.

  23. I hope her dental went well. The tooth fairy will send gifts if she had extractions.

  24. Sunny those toothies are never fun to have cleaned but it will help you keep them in the long run. Purrs and Cuddles from us all!

  25. That’s good news about Sunny’s dental!

  26. Zoe agrees that faucet water is the best, and so did Angel Moosey! 🙂

We are so glad that Sunny’s dental went so well, and that she is fitting in so well with the rest of the Colehaus Cats!

  27. I’m happy to hear about Sunny doing well. Yay!! And mama, you’ll have to give in to the faucet drinking. I have two Maine cons that love to splish splash in water so I placed two water bowls in a bathtub. They love it,

  28. We just use a bowl. None of us will go near the moving water fountain, and Iza tackles the bubbler so she can see the bubbles. She is determined to catch some. She never could, but it meant lots of water spilled all over the floor.
