Miss Itty’s scheduled vet visit yesterday went fabulously and we are happy to announce that for the time being, she is off all ear medication! Her ears look fairly good inside, compared to the black muck she tends to accumulate in there, and especially good-looking after they were given a good cleaning during her visit. She’s to go back in a month for a re-check. Her vet said she might be one of those cats who simply produce an extra amount of gunky ear wax in a short period of time that becomes the perfect breeding ground for bacteria. In the meantime, we’ll give her an ear wash once a week and see what comes of her next vet visit in August.

Lastly, here’s a few photos from our 4th of July Secret Fort Bonanza! Not only did everyone have one big fort, Mom created a connecting Fort Annex, and then a second one, all covered with blankets and filled with bedding and toys. All were BIG HITS!

We live in an area that allows all kinds of fireworks for personal use, from small firecrackers to the big mortars used at professional events. Our neighborhood is filled with fireworks lovers. Overhearing a conversation earlier in the day between neighbors, an estimated eighteen thousand dollars were spent between three families a few houses up the street. They began firing them off at four in the afternoon and the last at two twelve in the morning. So, yeah, we really enjoyed our dark, cozy forts. Combined with soft music over the speakers, toys, treats, and the occasional story read by Mom, everyone did okay!

  2. Rene S says:

Your mom is so wonderful so have such a fort for you to hide in!

  3. Cool your Mom made great forts for you. Sage didn’t seem to mind, but I stayed on the rug downstairs in Mom L’s office and she came down to stroke me and reassure me. I don’t like the 4th

  4. Yay for Miss Itty! Angel hid under the dresser, but came out when food was set out: I guess her empty tummy triumphed over the booms! Love the fort idea tho…may make one up tonight, since folks are still shooting off fireworks…grrr..

  5. the forts were brilliant!!! Miss Itty sounds like my Mom, she is prone to ear wax build up too, the doctor told her it’s just the way her ears are. Love, Cody

  6. Terri says:

A fort sounds like a wonderful idea! Jenna spent most of her time next to me. I guess she thought I’d protect her from the boomies 😉

  7. What a creative Mom you have our Mum would never have thought of doing that.

  8. Summer says:

Ugh! I can’t believe all those neighbors are such fireworks nuts! I guess none of them have dogs or cats, or they’re just totally insensitive to them. Good thing you kitties had such nice places to hang out. Great news about Miss Itty, though.

  9. Were those fireworks putting you just a little on edge, Ruby? Miss Itty, we are beyond happy to hear that your ears are doing so well! We’ll certainly be purring that they stay that way for you.

And, your neighbors sound a lot like our neighbors! It sounded like a war was waging outside all through Monday afternoon and evening. None of my furbabies seem to care one bit about things like that, luckily. As for you all, I love your safety fort! Honestly, if we could get away with living in a fort forever, wouldn’t that be purrfect? You all have a pretty pawesom mom, setting up a fort city for you! Does it get to stay up, well, forever? Purrs!

  11. yay for good forts (and seriously….all we could think about was how many animals could be helped with that kind of money….sheesh)

  12. We’re glad Miss Itty is doing so well. Angel Tamir always had a problem with gunk in his ears and then, one day, it cleared up for good!

We think you have the BEST Mom for making that fabulous fort for you!!!

  13. pilch92 says:

Yay for Miss Itty! That fort was such a great idea. That is a lot of fireworks, they are illegal in Massachusetts, but people just go to New Hampshire to get them so we have a lot of booms near us.

  14. We’re so glad you guys all survived the 4th. Having that fort was a really cool idea!

That’s great news for Miss Itty! We’re purring that her gunky ear days are over.

  15. meowmeowmans says:

That’s great news about Miss Itty. No ear meds sounds pretty terrific!

It looks like Ruby was keeping watch while the rest of you were in that awesome fort. 🙂

    Hugs!

  16. tonkstail says:

We are NOT fans of the 4th, either. But — YAY for Miss Itty!

  17. Your mum made you a fort? EVER LUCKY! My peep has NEVER made me a fort in my whole, entire life. MOUSES!

    Purrs,
    Seville

  18. kittiesblue says:

That is amazing. We have never heard of a city allowing such things in neighborhoods, and spending that amount of money is ludicrous. That fort your humans built is absolutely pawsome. What lucky kitties you are. XOCK, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo
