Angel Arie was your typical orange boy – overly curious and overly loveable. Given to us by a neighbor whose daughter could not, or would not, be taught not to carry him around with her hands around his neck, Arie was first thought to be a girl, then discovered to be a neutered boy. Some vets seem to snip more than others sometimes.

What is Colehaus without at least one overweight cat? Boring, that’s what. Arie helped change that by growing from a scrawny, malnourished kitten to a twenty-five pound boy rather quickly. He easily took to wearing a halter and leash for outdoor romps and loved his green t-shirt (often accessorized with a single strand of pearls and touch of blue eye shadow). Unfortunately, he never quite caught on that he wasn’t that agile little kitten anymore and his many attempts to jump up onto tables and counters ended with poor results. Maybe his adorably stubby legs had something to do with it. Or maybe he staged each fall because afterward, he was always scooped up by Mom or Dad and showered with belly kisses, which he enjoyed immensely.

When not getting himself into all sorts of predicaments, Arie like to watch TV, listen to music (Ozzy Osbourne was a favorite, as we recall), and kept our reading books fresh with tiny bits of dark orange fur. Sadly, we lost him to what we now know was kidney failure in April of 1999, but not much time goes by that we don’t think of him and his entertaining antics.

  2. Rene S says:

    Aw, look at him.

  3. Katie Isabella says:

He passed about the time our Matriarch of the family…who reared all three children and well, Robin, passed away with the same disease…CRF. She was beloved to the inability to express it well enough.

  4. Joan Ryan (KitKat) says:

What a beautiful boy! My calico cat, Sparky, went to the Bridge in June of 1999. She was overweight like Arie. Miss her still to this day. She was the second kitty my husband and I had.

  5. What a cutie! And so patient – pearls ???

  6. Madi and Mom says:

    Hugs Madi

  7. Angle Arie left you with lots of wonderful memories! Now, I’m going to put ‘looking for cat pearls’ onto my ‘to-do’ list! Thanks for sharing, and I’ll get after your jigsaw puzzle this weekend.

Orange boys are the most charming rascals. Angel Arie certainly was a prime example. Our vet says we have to be careful or Rufus the Red will be quite rotund! Orange boys…

  13. kittiesblue says:

Arie was adorable, and it sounds as if he was a typical “big boy” ginger cat. We are so sorry for the kidney failure. We know how hard that would have been on him. Thanks for sharing him with us. XOCK, angel Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, angel Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth, Calista Jo, Cooper Murphy and Sawyer

  14. That’s the story of both of my kitties … Bear was 4 pounds when I brought him in from the street (he was about 8 months old – so some increase was just growth) … Ellie was 7 lbs when she was found … and now both weigh 13.5 pounds. Thank you for sharing Arie with us – he sounds like such a character and if what I’m feeling is any indication – he brought much happiness to your house.

  15. What a precious little boy!
