Did you know that ginger cats and in particular, ginger girls tend to have ear issues, and some of those issues are the result of dirty ears? Nope, we didn’t know it either. And then we brought Sunny into the fold and if you recall, she was taking multiple medications and treatments for her severe ear infections before we helped tame that beast.
Turns out Pia, Ms. FloofCheeks, has somehow gained all kinds of waxy ear gunk of late and so, guess who has to have her ears cleaned every couple of weeks now?

Good thing we learned how to do this with very minimal injury to ourselves or the ear gunk collector and relatively quickly, too. Sorry, sweetie. It’s you, us, ear cleaning fluid, and some cotton balls later today. How fun!
Thankfully I don’t have problems with my ears, though I do not like having them touched too much. Have a great weekend!

We have noticed a much higher amount of gunk in Lucy’s ears too, and have to clean them out regularly.

We did not know this. Mom doesn’t remember problems with previous ginger, MacKenzie, who was a boy, and hasn’t noticed anything with Cooper Murphy. But thanks for the head’s up. Poor PIa. I hope ruddy-colored Somali cats don’t count as ginger, because I’d hate to add that to my grooming chores! It does not sound like fun!
I get a waxy left ear and my mum cleans it for me every week, or more often if it needs it. It’s disgusting and smells of strawberries. So girlie!!!
WE did not know that. So far the ginger cats here don’t seem to have ear problems. Hope the ear problems clear up soon.

Oh, Pia, it sounds like you and Sunny will need to do some commiserating. You sure are lucky to have peeps so well-trained in this! The ginger around here is my boy Evan, and he is a lucky boy with no ear issues. Purrs!
TBT looks into my ears weekly. I don’t like that much, but he does it when I am calm and sitting on his lap/ I have clean ears. ~ MARLEY
Pia, when I was little I had some ear problems that had to be taken care of. In one picture of me taken after the vet had cleaned my ears, I showed off my helicopter ear pose! Know what Hemingway told me? Humans sometimes have to have their ears cleaned out, too!!!

My vet says gingers are more prone to teeth issues too.
Strangely enough–here it is Amarula who has all the ear gunk! But I think she puts it in there herself so she doesn’t have to hear me!
